Bangalore – May 18, 2017: Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys, has partnered with Shivganga Samagra Gramvikas Parishad, a NGO working for development solutions of rural India, to work for the sustainable development of tribal villages of Jhabua – Alirajpur districts of Madhya Pradesh. The objective of the collaboration is to transform the village and its community in a holistic and integrated manner, covering aspects related to education, vocational training, community development and conservation of natural resources.
The grant provided by The Foundation, aimed at benefitting 500,000 villagers over a period 5 years, will facilitate a planned, holistic development program. Some of the intended milestones of the program include running a skill development program to empower tribal youth, establishing a training center at Dharampuri village, and creating awareness and training of village youths for prosperity through conservation and enrichment of natural resources. Technical training, establishment of village libraries and investments in energy solutions are some of the other impactful initiatives that are part of the program.
Speaking about the initiative, Mrs. Sudha Murty, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation said, “It is in the heart of the villages that India lives. Development of our villages by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities is quintessential to accelerate the economic growth of India. The Foundation in collaboration with Shivganga Samagra Gramvikas Parishad hopes to play a catalytic role in the development of these villages, enable and raise the aspirations of those living in the villages of Jhabua – Alirajpur districts, and provide them with the means to achieve dignified lives.”
