Pune- 1st April’13 – Rudraksh the multi designer that houses more than 80 veteran designers of the country presents swimwear designers Shivan & Narresh for the 1st time. The designer duo will be showcasing their collection at Rudraksh over 2 days, 5th & 6th April.
SHIVAN & NARRESH is India’s first luxury swimwear brand and was launched in Cannes at ‘Mare di Moda’ with their 100% stitch free swim line and were discovered in 2006 by Mittelmoda at the Mittelmoda International Beachwear Awards ’06 in Bali.
SHIVAN Bhatiya mastered the art of leather corsetry and accessories and NARRESH Kukreja specialized in women’s wear at The National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. Post their graduation; they were awarded scholarships to complete their Masters in Milan & Rome at the Istituto Europeo di Design in ‘Fashion & Textiles’ & ‘Luxury Marketing’ respectively.
After the launch in Cannes, the duo shifted their studio to India, and became the first mainstream beachwear designers doing 100% handcrafted stitch-free surfaced beachwear along with ready to wear swimwear made all in 100% Italian fabrics and complementing resort wear. Since its inception, the brand has aimed at making swimsuit become an active part of the Indian wardrobe providing confidence to Indian women through their ‘pret’ and the ‘made to measure’ swimsuit services. The brand takes pride in its Indian cultural ethos through its modest cuts, bold usage of colour and handcrafting to enable Indian women recreate around water.
The Lycra Sari and the Bikini Sari are two landmark creations of the brand that epitomize the brand’s visions for swimsuits in India.
SHIVAN & NARRESH is the first Indian brand to showcase at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012 in Miami and also to participate in the Swimwear Association of Florida’s SwimShow 2012.
SHIVAN & NARRESH received the Swarovski Most Creative Designer of the Year (‘07), Best Emerging Designers 2010 at the Marie Claire Fashion Awards 2010, Best Resort Wear at the Elle Style Awards 2010, Best Cruise Wear at Grazia Young Fashion Awards 2011. The brand got awarded the ‘Made in India label to the World’ at the Grazia Young fashion Awards 2012. They have been recently awarded the Young Achiever’s Award by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu and Today’s Youth Asia. They have also been speakers at the prestigious India Design Forum 2012 & the BlackBook Luxury Round Table. Internationally, the brand has been worn by celebrities ranging from Dita Von Teese, Fergie, Nicki Minaj, Padma Lakshmi to Selita Banks. Recently, the brand designed vintage swimsuits for the Hollywood movie Life of Pi by Ang Lee.
Collection Note:
The SS ’13 collection, titled ‘ZIP’, takes forward the artistic language of abstract expressionist Barnett Newman and converses with his ideology of colour fields and the use of hued zips to define spatial structures. Iconic works across Newman’s lifespan as an artist are given form in the collective ensemble. This collection reinforces the brand’s art approach to design, translating it to sculpt swimsuits in a pop inspired colour palette mixing cherry reds, aquamarines and chocolate browns. Newman’s bold zips are translated into hand-painted linens, forming the canvas for the collection to shape. The silhouettes express a structured freedom, amalgamating summery linens and cottons with defined forms, apt for a sojourned state of mind.
