Welcome to the Swedish Steel Prize, November 14-15

The Swedish Steel Prize – sometimes referred to as the Nobel Prize of the steel industry – will be awarded on November 15, 2012. The purpose of the prize is to inspire, stimulate and disseminate knowledge about high strength steels and the possibilities for developing lighter, safer and more environmentally friendly products.

This year’s nominees include innovations for the packaging and transportation of scrap metal (from New Zealand), light and durable train seats (from the Czech Republic) and a Swedish contribution in the form of a timber transportation vehicle.

The prize ceremony will be preceded by a visit to SSAB’s production facilities in Oxelösund on November 14.

Plant tour

Take a closer look at how SSAB’s production of advanced high strength steels takes place. Oxelösund is our center for the production of the world’s leading wear steels, which are used for buckets and truck beds that need to withstand strenuous conditions in, among other things, mining environments. The plant tour will cover six stations and visitors will have the opportunity to see for themselves rolling, steel mill material testing, R&D, and to meet some of SSAB’s experts.

  • There will be an opportunity to interview experts and managers on-site.
  • The day will begin at 10am in Oxelösund. Buses for Oxelösund will depart at 8am from the Clarion Stockholm Hotel, Skanstull, and will return to Stockholm from Oxelösund at approx.5.15pm.
