Trump’s Paris Decision is Not Climate Action

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump changed his mind and decided to keep the United States in the legal architecture of the Paris Agreement. The White House denied that they are changing their position on the Paris agreement. The Wall Street Journal also reported that the U.S. would lower its targets.

Friends of the Earth Senior Political Strategist Ben Schreiber offered the following response to the reports:

This latest fire drill on the Paris agreement proves only one thing: Donald Trump can’t be trusted. Even if Trump does decide to stay in the Paris Agreement, it will not be a victory for the planet because Trump’s actions have made it clear that he has no intention of doing our fair share on climate change.

Meaningful action by the U.S. would mean rapidly reducing emissions and providing significant climate finance. Trump has taken us in the opposite direction by cutting the $2 billion that the U.S. had already pledged to the Green Climate Fund. Donald Trump continues to hold the entire world hostage on climate change.
