Thomson Reuters presents Third Edition of Shri O. P. Malhotra’s Commentary on “The Law and Practice of Arbitration and Conciliation” by Indu Malhotra

New Delhi, April 7, 2014 – Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, launched the third edition of the commentary of O. P. Malhotra on Arbitration and Conciliation. The third edition has been updated by Ms. Indu Malhotra and provides a comprehensive overview of the Indian Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996 and analysis of recent judgments delivered by the Supreme Court up to January 2014.

The book was released by the Honorable Chief Justice of India, P. Sathasivam, in the presence of Honorable Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India.

The updated work contains new and contemporary topics in arbitration, and charts the progress in India’s arbitration law, such as Investment Treaty Arbitration, Anti-Arbitration Injunctions and essential features of arbitration with relevant case law.

“The Law and Practice of Arbitration and Conciliation” is the first book by an Indian author that discusses the topic of Investment Treaty Arbitration. The latest edition also contains a chapter on Anti-Arbitration Injunction, and its application in terms of domestic and foreign arbitrations. Other highlights of this edition are the chapters that cover Group of Companies Doctrine, Doctrine of Prospective Over-ruling, Public Policy as a defense in enforcement of domestic and foreign arbitral awards. There is also an analysis on the scope of judicial interference in domestic and international arbitrations.

Ms. Indu Malhotra, the author of the third edition of book made a dedication stating that, “The third edition of the book is dedicated to my late father, Shri O.P. Malhotra, the original author of the book who was keen that this work should continue.”
