THE MOST SPECTACULAR POLO TOURNAMENT OF THE NATION VODAFONE SIRMUR CUP 2016 KICK STARTS

Jaipur, January 25, 2016: Vodafone India, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, today announced the commencement of the much awaited annual Polo extravaganza – the Vodafone Sirmur Cup 2016. The tournament is organised in association with the Rajasthan Polo Club, Jaipur. This aristocratic Polo tournament flags off on Republic Day of India, Tuesday January 26, 2016 and will conclude with the grand finale on Sunday, 31, 2016, at the iconic Rajasthan Polo Ground in Jaipur.

The signature Vodafone Sirmur Cup trophy was unveiled today at the hands of HH Maharaja Savai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur, in presence of Amit Bedi, Business Head – Rajasthan, Vodafone India, Maharaj Jai Singh, Vice President of RPC (Rajasthan Polo Club) and Digvijay Singh, Secretary of RPC, amongst a host of other elitists.

Addressing at a Press Conference in Jaipur today, Amit Bedi, Business Head – Rajasthan, Vodafone India, said, “On the 67th republic day of our nation, we feel extremely privileged in presenting the 13th edition of Vodafone Sirmur Cup which is one of the finest sporting events in our country. Our relationship with the Sirmur Cup goes back over 13 years and clearly demonstrates our commitment to stay connected with the culture of Rajasthan and give Polo its due recognition nationally and internationally. Vodafone will continue to extend its patronage to the legacy of Polo, and keep making efforts to bring high recognition to this royal sport.”

Counted amongst the most long standing, prestigious annual sporting events in India, the Vodafone Sirmur Cup, an indelible part of Rajasthan’s Royal tradition, is also ranked as one of the prime global Polo events.

Six teams comprising of some of the world’s finest and most experienced Polo players, will participate in this year’s tournament. The polo teams Garcha Hotels, Vodafone Worriers, Chandana Group, Wish Empire, Rajnigandha Achievers, Bedla Polo Team – comprising 24 players in all, will fight it out for the top slot and the ultimate honour of holding the Vodafone Sirmur Cup Trophy. The Vodafone Sirmur Cup 2016 will, as per tradition, be a 14 goal tournament, the highest number of handicaps per player in the Jaipur Polo Season.

The keenly watched final match will be played on January 31, 2016, marking the conclusion of the polo season in Jaipur. The entire event is celebrated each year with style, grandeur & pride and brings together veritable spectators from not only Rajasthan but global elite circles too.
