Classified as part of UNESCO’s “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” since 2003, the “Día de los Muertos” is the most important date in the Mexican calendar. The festivities are accompanied with traditional music and bright coloured decorations, seen all over the streets of Mexico. It allows humanity to laugh at death with a certain degree of humour and provocation, echoing the spirit of RJ-Romain Jerome’s designs.

In honour of this Mexican tradition, RJ-Romain Jerome celebrates life with the creation of these tantalizing timepieces, reminding us that everyday is a gift and that death is a promise: “Memento Mori!”*

The Día de los Muertos Resucitado offers a range of four new designs, each housed in a black PVD-coated 46mm steel case. The black ceramic bezel has undergone a delicate satin finish giving the watch a sleek aesthetic, drawing attention to RJ’s emblematic skull in the centre of the dial, also known as calaveras.

Each calaveras is carefully hand-crafted with a modern interpretation of the champlevé decoration process skilfully hand painted in cold enamel and finally adorned on a mirror-polished dial. Available in summery turquoise with pastel trappings, bright white or deep black with black or white ornaments, “calaveras” literally give life to the watch.

Playing with the colours of darkness, a black PVD-coating has been applied to the steel paws, recreating RJ’s emblematic X motif that can be found engraved across the dial of many RJ timepieces. The combination of the black PVD-coated crown, black minute and hour brushed hands with superluminova C1 « blue emission » tips and a black Hornback alligator strap create a striking contrast between the dark features of the watch and the bold and bright skull-shaped applique.

This “Resucitado” collection offers an additional red gold model with red gold “calaveras” and filigrees, red gold paws, minute and hours hands, this edition gives the “Día de los Muertos Resucitado” collection a glowing new alternative.

Part of RJ-Romain Jerome’s Historical Icons, this limited edition of 25 pieces per model pays tribute to the heritage of Mexican culture. By creating symbolic watches infused with Century old traditions, each wearer can tell death, with light-hearted irony, to wait a little longer…
