REpower erects its 5,000th wind turbine

· Takes total installations to over 9.6 GW of capacity worldwide
Pune/Hamburg: Suzlon Group-subsidiary REpower Systems SE announced the completion of installation of its 5,000th turbine, located in Baden-Württemberg’s biggest public wind farm, “Großer Wald”, near Buchen in the Neckar-Odenwald district.

Five REpower 3.2M114 turbines that comprise the wind farm will produce around 28 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually – enough for around 7,500 homes. Yesterday, the second one was erected. Through these 5,000 turbines, REpower has so far installed more than 9.6 gigawatt of capacity, enough to supply more than 18 million people – or the entire population of the Netherlands – with electricity.

REpower today is not just a major player in the onshore industry, the Hamburg-based company is also setting new standards offshore, demonstrated by its 6-megawatt turbines, the most powerful series-manufactured offshore turbines in the world. The world’s biggest offshore wind farm consisting of 6 MW-turbines, Thornton Bank, entered operation on 17th September 2013, where forty-eight REpower 6M and six REpower 5M turbines generate enough electricity for 600,000 people.

Speaking on the milestone, Andreas Nauen, CEO – REpower Systems SE, said: “We stand for quality. And that’s what energy companies demand from their wind power plants just as public wind farms do for independent electricity generation. We are delighted that we contribute to a clean energy supply as a reliable partner with projectspecific solutions and products that meet our customer’s needs.”

The German domestic market is making a strong contribution to REpower’s business. In the first half of 2013, REpower installed more than 200 megawatts in Germany, thereby achieving a 21 per cent market share. In Schleswig-Holstein, its market share of installed turbines is more than 50 per cent in the first half of 2013. The goal for 2013 is to achieve a stable, double-digit market share in Germany.
