KEMPELE, FINLAND – May 4, 2016 – Polar, the pioneer of wearable sports and fitness technology and the leader of heart rate monitoring for more than 35 years, announces Running Program, a comprehensive training plan available now in Polar Flow. The program offers runners a personalized and adaptive running plan, motivational guidance and supportive exercises with video instructions that take the guesswork out of training. Based on their current level of fitness and training history, Running Program provides a training plan that fits a user’s current fitness level, adapts to their progress and offers easy-to-follow instructions that help runners focus on what’s important for improvement.

“Coaching and providing meaningful feedback is something that has always been at the core of Polar, which is why the Running Program was a natural evolution for us,” says Marco Suvilaakso, Global Product Director at Polar. “Our products provide trusted metrics and features that performance athletes have come to expect, but our Polar Flow services provide value far beyond tracking data. We show users what their data means, and we use it to provide guidance on how to improve performance and meet training goals. The running program takes this coaching to the next level and creates a personal running plan that fits beginners as well as more seasoned professionals.”

To begin, users choose one of four events: 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon, and set the date of the event. Depending on their choices and activity levels, users receive a personal running program that can range from 9 to15 weeks in length. The number of training days per week depends on the users’ training history and their current fitness level. If the running event is further away, Running Program offers a base-building phase that can work for months before the start of the actual running event.

Running Program goes beyond a running training plan to also incorporate guided supportive exercises, offering a more holistic approach to training. Strength, core and mobility exercise videos are available to guide users through workouts, and improve common weaknesses that will help increase running efficiency and reduce the risk of injury.

There are six running workout types within the Running Program: easy jog, medium run, long run, tempo run, interval and event day. During individual training sessions the most advanced Polar products, such as the Polar M400 GPS running watch and Polar V800, offer users live guidance. Runners can view target heart rate zones and target duration, and adjust their training for optimal results.

The Running Program feature is now available for all Polar Flow users. Runners can find even more tips and information on Polar’s new running themed page at www.polar.com/running. To make the most out of the latest feature, Polar recommends using either the Polar M400 GPS running watch or the Polar V800 GPS sports watch.
