New Honda Jazz VS VW Polo VS Fiat Punto- Clash of Premium Hatchbacks

Hatchback segment also known as the small car segment is flooded with new cars every year that makes choosing the best hatchback car a tiring process. As one of the fastest growing sector in the Indian market every car manufacturer is trying its best to introduce new cars, not only they are launching new models but are also regularly upgrading them. Honda, the Japanese car manufacturer is also introducing the upgraded model of the Honda Jazz at the next year’s Indian Auto Expo.

This new hatchback is much more spacious if compared to the older one, this includes the headroom, legroom and boot space. The Honda model will be available in both the petrol and the diesel variants. The petrol variants will be powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine which also powers the Amaze sedan while the diesel variants will be powered by a 1.5-liter i-DTEC engine.
The new Honda Jazz is going to give a tough competition to the other luxury hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Polo and the Fiat Punto which lie in the same price range. The Volkswagen Polo is the next generation car and has all the features from comfort to power. The Fiat Punto first introduced in 2005 has been performing well since then; it has won many awards and has received a five star rating in terms of safety.

The New Honda Jazz petrol engine will churn out a power of 90bhp at 6000rpm and a torque of 109Nm at 4500rpm. The engine comes mated with a 5 speed manual transmission to further improve its efficiency. The VW Polo petrol variants come with two engine options – 1.2L and 1.6L with a 5 speed manual transmission. The 1.2L engine produces a maximum power of 73.9bhp at the rate of 5400rpm and a torque of 110Nm at the rate of 3750rpm whereas the 1.6 L engine produces a peak power and torque of 103.6bhp at 5250rpm and 180Nm at 3750rpm respectively. The Fiat Punto follows a similar trend like the VW Polo and has two petrol engine options which are 1.2L and 1.4L. The 1.2L engine generates a power of 68bhp at 6000rpm and 96Nm at 2500rpm whereas the 1.4L engine produces 90bhp at 6000rpm of power and 115Nm at 4500rpm of torque. So, it can be seen that the in terms of power the Honda Jazz is much better that the other two. When it comes to the mileage all three models have the same fuel efficiency both in the city and highway driving conditions.
The diesel variants of the Honda model are going to be powered by 1.5-liter i-DTEC engine that churns out a maximum power of 98bhp whereas the VW Polo has a 1.2-liter, 3 cylinder engine that generates a power of 73.9bhp and the Fiat Punto has a 1.3-liter Multi Turbo engine with new VGT which produces a power of 76bhp. Again in the diesel variant the Honda Jazz has an advantage over the other two in terms of its power.
When it comes to the looks the exterior of Honda Jazz is much more appealing than the two competitors. Exterior looks of the Polo and Punto are very blunt when compared to the attractive look of the Jazz. In terms of Safety there is no doubt that Fiat Punto has many safety features but the others also do not lag behind. The Jazz is expected to have all the basic safety features including the advanced ones like the G-CON technology including the ECU.
After comparing all three cars on different aspects, we reached to a conclusion that next gen Honda Jazz is going to be a better product than rest of the competition. The car has got all, refined and powerful engines, attractive exteriors and roomy interiors make this car desirable. We are also expecting that Honda might launch this vehicle at an affordable pricing.
