The first case is of Master Gaurav Saxena, son of Mr. Mohan Babu Saxena, Mathura aged 2 year old boy diagnosed at the age of 4 months in local hospital of Mathura to have multiple holes in the heart. He was referred to a renowned private hospital of Delhi. The patient was not comfortable getting the surgery done in Delhi as he had no means of staying in Delhi for the duration of the surgery.  Through some sources, Gaurav’s parents came to know about successful pediatric cardiac surgeries performed at Nayati. Gaurav was examined carefully and parents were counseled regarding the need for surgery. He was admitted on 20th of June, 2016 and operated day after and extubated within three hours of surgery and child is now doing well.

The second case is of a 19 year old boy diagnosed to be suffering from congenital heart disease, tetralogy of fallot – blue baby syndrome. He was diagnosed to be suffering from heart disease at the age 5 months when parents noticed bluish discoloration of lips and nail bed. As a child he was restless, could barely walk and had hardly slept for almost 3 years. He was taken to various government and private hospital in Delhi but did not get the confidence. At the age of 16yrs, parents noticed deepening cyanosis and easy fatigability, so decided to get him operated. The child was admitted at AIIMS after waiting for almost 2 years for his turn, however, refused surgery at the last minute. Parents were deeply disheartened. They got to know about Nayati. The child was repeatedly counseled for weeks by the doctors and councilor. He was shown successful postoperative pediatric cardiac patients operated at the hospital. He was finally convinced. Multiple phlebotomy was done as he had high hemoglobin levels ( 25g/dl, oxygen saturation of  60%). He was discharged on fifth post operative day.

The third case is of four year old boy Dev Aggrawal who was also diagnosed to be suffering from congenital heart disease, tetralogy of fallot – blue baby syndrome since the age of 1year when his parents noticed odd bluish discoloration of lips n nail bed. His parents took the child to corporate hospital at Jaipur and Fortis Escorts Heart Institute Delhi for treatment but could not afford the surgery and cost for staying in hospital for 10-15days. Hence, the surgery was delayed. After learning about the success stories of pediatric cardiac cases being done at Nayati hospital, they got the confidence that even smaller kids with heart defects can be operated in their own city, Mathura. They met the parents of operated kids especially 8months baby with multiple defects in heart who was operated at our hospital. Dev was admitted and operated the very next day. The child is doing quite well and recuperating.

Niira Radia, Chairperson Nayati Healthcare stated, “The health statistics reveal a rise in congenital heart disease among children in the region. Most of such diseases can be prevented through timely intervention. However, only 10 per cent of the affected infants with serious heart disease receive timely intervention. The remaining 90 per cent children do not survive because of late or no diagnosis. It is critical that awareness be created amongst the masses on early diagnosis so that the little ones can lead a healthy happy life. The Nayati team of Cardiac Sciences offers comprehensive care for patients with cardio vascular disease at an affordable cost.”

Dr. Venugopal Ram Rao, Chairman of Nayati Centre for Cardiac Sciences stated “Decades ago, only 15 to 20 percent of babies born with heart defects survived to adulthood. Now, it’s 95 percent. India has the largest burden of heart disease among children with 2 lakh children born every year with congenital heart defects (CHD).In less than 60 days, at Nayati we have done close to 20 Pediatric surgeries ranging from 9 months to 19 years – all complicated and never been performed in the region. Each one of them was unique and challenging. Due to innovations in cardiac surgery, we are able to perform such complex surgeries on patients of all the age groups without much complication.”
