Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list will be announced on Wednesday, September 3rd

image0033The best chefs in Latin America will flock to Lima next week to celebrate the announcement of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2014.

Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2014 awards ceremony, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, will take place on Wednesday, September 3rd. The event is organised by William Reed Business Media, the people behind The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and takes place at the Country Club Lima Hotel.

This list, to be unveiled in the presence of the continent’s most renowned chefs, restaurant critics and culinary experts, is the result of votes casted by more than 250 opinion leaders of the industry from across the region who make up the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy. Voters are selected for their experience and knowledge of Latin America’s dining scene.

The Academy is divided into four separate regions: Mexico and Central America, including the Caribbean; South America (North); South America (South) and Brazil.

Each region has its own panel of 63 members headed by a chair. Food critics, chefs, restaurateurs and well-respected foodies comprise the panel. Each member must cast seven votes, of which at least three must be for restaurants outside their home country.

In the first edition of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, launched in 2013, Peru’s Gaston Acurio received a double recognition: The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award and his restaurant, Astrid y Gaston, ranked first in the list, followed by Alex Atala’s D.O.M., in Brazil, in second place. The Mexican restaurant Pujol placed third; while Peru’s Central and Brazil’s Maní rounded out the top five respectively. Furthermore, Brazilian Helena Rizzo won the Veuve Clicquot Latin America’s Best Female Chef Award 2013.

“We are very pleased with the success achieved by the first Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants awards last year, and know for sure that, as in 2013, diners from the different corners of the world will use this listing to explore the region’s diverse cuisine,” said William Drew, Group Editor of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants.

Expectation builds to discover which restaurant will take home the first place, the new entries to this privileged ranking and of course, which chefs will be acknowledged with personal awards. It should be noted that in addition to the presentation of the list, the following special awards will be presented:

  • The S.Pellegrino Best Restaurant in Latin America
  • The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award
  • The Veuve Clicquot Latin America’s Best Female Chef Award
  • Chefs’ Choice Award, sponsored by Telefonica
  • Latin America’s Best Pastry Chef Award, sponsored by Cacao Barry
  • Highest Climber Award, sponsored by Zacapa

Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants – Manifesto:

Organised by William Reed Business Media the people behind The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants is a snapshot of the opinions and experiences of over 250 Latin American restaurant industry experts. What constitutes ‘best’ is left to the judgment of these trusted and well-travelled gourmets. The list is the result of a simple computation of votes. Given that this list is based on personal experiences it can never be definitive, but we believe it is an honourable survey of current tastes and a credible indicator of the best places to eat across Latin America.
