(Munich, September 24, 2013) Already several years ago, with its efficient coextrusion models KraussMaffei Berstorff recognized the trend in window profile extrusion towards increased use of recycled materials and fillers, and continues on its path to success. Since K 2010, the company has sold more than 100 machine combinations worldwide. With the addition of the KMD 53 K/P model to the product range of the conical series in 2012, demand again increased and has continued unbroken since then. This machine can be seen at K 2013 as a column version.

Pioneering technology for cost-effective fillers and recycled material
Precisely in window profile extrusion, owing to the highly competitive market the demand for sustainable production with more and more recycled materials has increased enormously. “With our space saving coextrusion models, for many years now we have offered processors a suitable concept with which they can produce a premium-quality end product using cost-effective raw materials such as recycled materials or materials with a high filler content,” explains Peter Oswald, Director of the Profile Extrusion Product Group at KraussMaffei Berstorff. “The large number of machines and systems sold confirms that our machine combinations are optimally suited for window profile extrusion in accordance with criteria currently applicable on the market, such as core technology, layer technology and combination technology,” Oswald is pleased to say. All models, both the parallel and conical twin-screw extruders, impress customers with their modularity, flexible processing technology and ease of handling. KraussMaffei Berstorff offers a broad range of space-saving concepts, such as column or piggyback combinations. “From our broad range of products, we meet all production requests, depending on type of application and space requirements, with a combination of parallel with conical or only conical models,” explains Oswald.
Intelligent process concept for profile extrusion
The process concept of parallel and conical twin-screw extruders from KraussMaffei Berstorff ensures optimum melt homogeneity and permits processing of many different formulations with just one screw geometry. When designing the conical screws, KraussMaffei Berstorff paid close attention to the increased requirement relating to the pressure stability of the conical extruders. The screws in all series are molybdenum-plated and provide, when combined with the deep-nitrided barrels, active wear resistance, especially during processing of recyclables and dry blends with high filler content.

At K 2013 (October 16 to 23, 2013, Hall 15, Booth B27/C24/C27/D24), KraussMaffei Berstorff will be presenting the KMD 53 K/P conical twin-screw extruder on a column. The model’s flexible possibilities for use are very impressive, and it is of extremely compact design. With an output rate of 50 – 160 kg/h, the extruder is ideally suited to the medium output range. All coextruders are optionally available with a control unit integrated into the main extruder or can be fitted with their own control unit.
