JCI and the Government of Sarawak Partner to Host International Summit on Peace

St. Louis, USA, February 24, 2017 — JCI and the Government of Sarawak signed a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday providing the framework for the sponsorship of the International Summit on Peace that will take place September 6–8, 2017 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia—the city of unity—leading up to the International Day of Peace on September 21.

Through their partnership, JCI and the Government of Sarawak will provide a platform for young people across the globe to join in building a common vision to create an everlasting world peace.

The Summit will engage young active citizens from over 100 countries and expert stakeholders from all sectors of society to identify the greatest barriers to peace and formulate sustainable solutions to these challenges, empowering young people worldwide to be the generation to develop peace within themselves, their community and the world around them.

“This is a huge opportunity not just for JCI and the Government of Sarawak but also for the rest of the world, and we hope that through this collaboration we can unite like-minded individuals, bring together a coalition of organizations and spend two meaningful days planning for the future of the world in which we live in,” said JCI Secretary General Arrey Obenson.

“This international event will build a closer relationship between JCI and Government of Sarawak, and give a better understanding of our culture to the rest of the world. Furthermore, Kuching is a unique place to host this event because it has been declared one of unity with 28 ethnic groups and those of different religions and cultures, living harmoniously,” said Ing Ing Ngui, representative from the Government of Sarawak.

In the beginning of 2016, JCI launched the Peace is Possible campaign mobilizing young people worldwide to create awareness, advocate, take action and commit to an everlasting world peace and also to build a coalition of like-minded stakeholders from all sectors of society that are committed to the purpose.
