Indian Team from IIT Roorkee wins Schneider Electric’s Global ‘Go Green in the City 2017’ Contest in Paris

Team Phoenix won the contest for their cooling solution ‘Evacool’ a low cost technology for cooling rooms

New Delhi, 27th  October, 2017: Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, recently hosted the 12 finalist teams of the seventh Go Green in the City, its international student competition to find innovative energy solutions for smart cities in Paris. The winners of its ‘Go Green in the City 2017 initiative’ were Nimisha Gupta and Raja Jain, of Team PHOENIX who are students of chemical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT). The top runner-ups at the event was team HECEnergie from France which won the 2nd place and team Greening from Brazil and EnergyXDuke from USA, which secured the 3rd position.

The India team won the competition for their cooling solution – Evacool, a low-cost earthenware cooling technology for cooling rooms. Team Phoenix’s idea came from their experience of the water-cooling properties of earthen pots, a quality long recognised in India, to help cool rooms. The winning team was awarded an opportunity to build their career with Schneider Electric, a world VIP-style trip, visiting 2 destinations facilities as well as networking opportunities with employees and senior management at Schneider Electric. The ultimate global student competition is conducted every year to promote innovative solutions for smarter and energy efficient cities. Go Green in the City exemplifies the values that define Schneider Electric and lived daily by its people.

Speaking about the event for sustainable energy solutions, Rachna Mukherjee, CHRO, Schneider Electric India said, “The initiative received an overwhelming response from across the globe with 19,772 applications from 180 countries. We were delighted at the innovative solutions to vexed global issues which were shared by young minds. My congratulations to all the winners and participants for their passion for making a change.”

As a part of the initiative, finalists from around the world were sponsored a trip to Paris where they connected with Schneider Electric’s employees and learned more about what it’s like to work at the company and understand its culture of innovation, while also receiving practical career advice.
