7th Dec 2014, Gurgaon: Rabindranath world school, Gurgaon marks its commitment to the importance of sports in student life by celebrating their Annual Sports Day on 7th December at the Tau Devilal Stadium with Indian Boxer Mary Kom. The school’s sports day is one of the biggest events of the institute as it just does not bring forth the athlete in a child, but also builds, solidifies and celebrates the importance of sports in our country.
The chief guest for the event was Mary Kom, the renowned boxer and whose contribution to sports is immense. The school’s philosophy resonates with Mary Kom’s life journey; students of RWS are taught hard work, the refusal to give up, pushing every boundary there is. Mary Kom is truly an inspiration and the students are inspired by her life story and have learned that nothing in life is impossible if the dedication and determination is there.
Commenting on the occasion Mr Gaurav Tomar, Director, Rabindranath World School, said “We are honoured to have Indian Boxer Mary Kom at our school. She is an inspiration to our kids, in her 12-year career, Mary has had to push herself, moving up weight categories as lower categories have progressively been scrapped. For her, the challenge isn’t just being on top of her game, it’s being ahead of it and this is what we teach our kids here at RWS. The values our kids get at RWS is similar to the values that Mary Kom lives by, that no dream is too big and no dreamer is too small !! “
Sports Day began with a colorful opening ceremony, which was followed by Mary Kom’s motivational speech. The students entertained the spectators with a spectacular performance of different activities. Many other eye-catching, captivating displays and activities were lined up all of which were whole heartedly enjoyed and appreciated by the audience.
“We should always encourage future generation of the country towards sports. I am happy to be part of such initiatives and share my experience with young talent” said Indian Boxer Mary Kom.
RWS advocates and practices the concept of ‘We educate and liberate”. In this, students are given adequate exposure to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities along with the curriculum. It believes in nurturing sport activities right from the kindergarten level. Their association with Mahesh Bhupati for their tennis academy is a step towards their commitment towards nurturing talent in students from an early age. The school inspires them to take on the challenges of life and exhibit the spirit of competition and sportsmanship. Students are encouraged to perform not only at school level but also at the national and international levels.
