Hidesign’s annual eco-initiative the ‘Art of Reuse’, 2012.

The Art of Reuse is an engagement project initiated by Hidesign, to support and encourage the practice of upcycling used materials, which one discards as waste or redundant goods, into new materials/products of better quality with a higher environmental value. The initiative is in the form of a contest, where participants are encouraged to create innovative designs out of leather scrap provided in a kit by Hidesign. The Art of Reuse Kit was made available at all Hidesign stores PAN India and the winners were selected after a round of voting on Hidesign’s Facebook page. Out of the top 10 designs with the highest votes, 3 winners were selected by Hidesign’s president and founder, Dilip Kapur and the Hidesign team.

Details on the winners:

Roshini Kamath’s beautiful design has been awarded 1st place, and all credit goes to her creative edge! Hidesign loved the clean, beautiful lines and elegant detail work that she used for her creation. The well-thought out multiple accessories, use of colours, the attention paid to detail and the along with the neatly used even stitches got Hidesign in a heartbeat. She has won herself Rs.15,000/- gift voucher from Hidesign.

Sweeny Dias came in at 2nd place. With the increased number of votes up its sleeve, Sweeny’s design was a clear favourite! Sweeny managed to bag a Rs.10,000/- gift voucher from Hidesign. What made Hidesign fall in love? The skillfully used leather scraps forming an elegant clutch and coin purse. Making women swoon over the attractive usage of embellishments. It is definitely the perfect companion to an evening outfit. Striking colours and the unusual shapes of leather, struck gold as she explored her inner designer! This design was clearly a hot favourite in the competition!

Samidha Gunjal created an undeniably cute and imaginative design, which stole the hearts of many at Hidesign. She had a great concept and the vision to realize it. This innovative design brings out the personality of the creator. She used neat contrasting stitches, which set her design apart. On winning the 3rd place in the Art Of Reuse 2012 Samidha won a Rs 5000/- gift voucher from Hidesign.

Green initiatives

The annual campaign by Hidesign reaches out to a larger audience by introducing the simplicity in recycling and increasing the appreciation of handcrafted products.
