GoAir- Connecting People to Nature

GoAir employees celebrate World Environment Day for Children

India, June 5, 2017: GoAir, one of India’s fastest growing airlines, celebrated World Environment Day and its commitment to a greener planet by planting saplings in the compound of the Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children (Wadia Hospital). Keeping in tune with this year’s theme, “Connecting People to Nature”,senior staff members including pilots and cabin crew from GoAir planted saplings and educated children about the need to appreciate nature’s beauty and importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share. GoAir also conducted a drawing competition where the kids not only got an opportunity to showcase their creativity but also draw inspiration to save the environment.

“In GoAir we adopt high standards of green responsibility. To protect the environment, GoAir has since inception been following a policy of using the most modern and fuel efficient fleet thereby reducing fuel burn and emission of greenhouse gases. In addition, GoAir implements a comprehensive package of measures which includes optimization of weight of the aircraft, taking the optimum flight path, flight level and many other measures in all operational areas which help us to reduce fuel consumption thus minimizing impact on the environment. GoAir is operating A320 NEO, the most fuel efficient aircraft in its class and has 144 aircraft on order. This year we have even distributed seed paper to our passengers as part of this awareness drive,” said Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, Managing Director & CEO, GoAir

“This activity underlines and further reinforces the airline’s commitment and efforts towards environmental sustainability. Through this initiative with Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, GoAir aims to increase awareness about the significance of contributing to nature,” he further added.

Dr. Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO, Wadia Hospitals said, “World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. WED is the opportunity for everyone to realize their responsibility of taking care of the Earth and to become agents of change. Through this initiative with GoAir, we aim to make children appreciate natural resources and their contribution to our very existences and how taking them for granted could prove to be detrimental to future generations.”

Recently, GoAir bagged the prestigious award of ‘Best operational award’ in the small/mid-size aircraft category at the A320 Family 2017 Symposium in Berlin. This award from Airbus is based on fleet utilization and performance achievements in each region and worldwide seeks to facilitate two-way dialog amongst the aviation industry, ultimately leading to even safer and more efficient fleet.
