edX Bullish on India, Expands to Accelerate Growth and Further Mission in Region

Deepens commitment to India partners and edX learners

India, May 04th, 2016EdX (https://www.edx.org/), the nonprofit online learning destination founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), recognizing India as a high-priority market for online education, reinforces its commitment to the region by expanding operations. Since edX began in 2012, India has consistently remained the platform’s second largest learner base, underscoring the strong need for high-quality education in India and the enthusiasm of Indian learners. To foster continued growth and harness the vast potential in the region, edX has appointed Amit Goyal as Country Head to grow and deepen commitments to edX Indian partners, collaborators and learners.

The edX mission in India is to empower learners with access to high-quality education from the world’s best institutions and universities. Over the last year, edX has witnessed great momentum with 96% growth in its Indian learner base. With more than 730,000 Indian learners, India makes up 11% of the edX learner base overall.

Amit Goyal, in his new role as the edX India Country Head, will spearhead growth and drive momentum in India with a key focus on strategic alliances and corporate partnerships. Additionally, he will develop and deepen corporate and institute partnerships seeking innovative education options, such as blended learning environments, and cutting-edge technologies.

Prior to joining edX, Amit Goyal was with Samsung India Electronics where he managed the education solutions business, creating new products and enabling learning and assessments on secure mobility platforms for enterprises, institutes and universities. He was also the Vice President of Platform Strategy for Datawind Inc., the makers of Aakash Tablet for Ministry of HRD- Govt. of India and was responsible for adding world-class edutainment content on the cheapest PC tablet in the world. In addition to his strong industry experience, Amit also brings a solid network of partners in corporate and education industries that he hopes to leverage in his new role at edX.

He holds a Master’s degree in Business from Oxford Brookes University-Oxford, U.K. and a bachelor’s degree in IT from BVP, India along-with various business and networking certifications.
