Dick Teets Receives Steel Manufacturers Association Top Award

Washington, D.C.  – The Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) presented Richard P. Teets retired co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Steel Dynamics Incorporated (SDI) with its Iverson-Selig award. The award recognizes Dick’s outstanding contributions to the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel industry.  The award is named after Nucor’s founder Ken Iverson and Marvin Selig, founder of CMC Steel, who were two pioneers in establishing and growing the EAF industry, which is commonly referred to as “the minimills”. The award was presented in Washington, D.C. at the joint Steel Manufacturers Association and American Iron and Steel Institute Awards Luncheon on May 23, 2017.

“Dick’s contributions to the success of SDI and his impact on the entire steel industry cannot be overstated,” said Philip K. Bell, President of the SMA. Bell added “Throughout his long and pioneering career, Dick has contributed in countless ways to advance the causes and culture that are at the heart of American steelmaking.”

“Throughout his 40 year career he has been a tireless advocate for industry safety, education, mentoring and training of young steel industry professionals.  He understands that our industry is a wonderful and glorious one that has helped countless business serve their customers, shareholders build their wealth, communities build their futures and people build their lives,” said Bell.

Upon on receiving the award, Dick recognized and thanked SDI employees as well as company co-founders Keith Busse and Mark Millett crediting them for his success in the industry.
