Cycling in Reno Tahoe

Reno Tahoe is the place for the cycling enthusiast! It’s bike friendly with bike lanes through most cities and most of the interconnecting highways. Road cycling lovers can enjoy the bike lanes throughout Northern Nevada. The picturesque landscape and open cliff faces reminds one of the Pacific Coast Highway. If you’re looking to get onto the beaten path, there are several mountain biking paths. Greg Lemond, former Tour de France champion, trained in Reno Tahoe.

The Tour de Nez has been the backbone of a cycling tradition here for the past 19 years. The Tour de Nez (which means Tour of Nose) is a stage-style ride reminiscent of the Tour de France. It’s a widely recognized event that is more than just a race. It also encompasses side events that include races of varying levels for those who might not be professionals. There’s also an event at the end for bicycling enthusiasts.

A Serious, whimsical, awe-inspiring day of bicycle racing in downtown Reno.

In its 23rd year, the Mighty Tour de Nez was once labeled “the coolest bike race in America” by a major cycling publication.  There are race classifications for men and women, from beginning to professional levels, including the Erika Grief Memorial Women’s Professional Criterium. The 1-mile criterium course format lets you see the field go past any spot on the course every 2 to 3 minutes. For the less serious bike enthusiasts, Tour de Nez offers “clunker” races and the ever-popular kids’ races.

Tour de Nez hosts one of the biggest hand-cycle fields in the country.

Both pro teams and hand-cyclists enter Tour de Nez as a point’s race for their national rankings.  Tour de Nez champions have gone on to capture national age group and category championships.

Tour de Nez dates back to a block party that morphed into a bike race.

Anybody can host a bike race, but not everybody can host one where the line between party fun and racing intensity gets so blurred, Tour de Nez partners with the restaurants, cafes, and merchants in the central core of Reno’s very cool MidTown and RiverWalk sectors to provide a day full of first class fun. Add in a few outdoor bands, our signature mint juleps, and a few food trucks at the Nevada Museum of Art and you will never want to leave downtown again.
