The countdown to the 68th Berlinale has begun

Several weeks in advance of the 68th Berlinale, everything at Glashütte Original is already revolving around the world of film. Looking forward with pleasure to the start of the world’s largest public film festival, the Saxon manufactory has sent its exclusive timepieces on a trip to the most important film sets in the world. The photographic expedition, entitled “Movie Capitals of the World” ends right on time for the opening of the Berlin International Film Festival on February 15, 2018.

Here in the German capital, Glashütte Original will celebrate “Capital Moments” – and not only on the Red Carpet – with the premiere of an exclusive special edition. As Principal Partner of the Berlinale, the manufactory also offers the 50,000 Euro Glashütte Original – Documentary Award. Once again Berlin steps into the limelight as one of film’s capital cities, from February 15 – 25 at the International Film Festival – with great art, inspiring encounters and the electrifying flair of one of the most exciting metropolises in the world. Glashütte Original looks forward to innumerable “Capital Moments“ during the 68th Berlinale – and not only on the Red Carpet: A new limited edition which captures the inimitable style of the big city in a striking urban design will be the star of an exclusive launch during the Festival. And with that, the journey of some of its most famous timepieces, sent by the manufactory to significant locations in the history of film, will come to an
end. Since the 27th of December these models have played the lead role in the “Movie Capitals of the World“ campaign. Currently, watch and film fans can follow the results of this action on Glashütte Original’s social media channels.

The Partnership: Here the art of filmmaking meets the art of engineering The manufactory has supported the Berlinale since 2011. Appearing for the second time in its role as Principal Partner, the Saxon manufactory will once again offer the 50,000 Euro Glashütte Original – Documentary Award. The prize will be presented during the official Awards Ceremony in the Berlinale Palast on February 24 by a three-member jury of renowned film industry figures. In Glashütte and Berlin there’s a feverish excitement in the air as filmmakers and fans await the names of the jury members and the titles of the 18 current documentary entries chosen as
nominees for the Award from the sections Competition, Forum, Panorama, Generation, Berlinale Special, Perspektive Deutsches Kino and the special series, Culinary Cinema.

Along with the 50,000 Euros in prize money, Glashütte Original will also deliver the Documentary Award trophy: a 20-centimetre-high statuette in brass, stainless steel and acrylic, made with exquisite craftsmanship in the Saxon manufactory. In 2018 Glashütte Original returns as the host of the “Golden Bear Lounge by Glashütte Original”. On the first floor of the Hotel Grand Hyatt Berlin and directly opposite the Red Carpet, actors, directors, producers and journalists from all over the world will find a quiet retreat for industry talks, interviews and receptions. “Berlin is a world stage, all the more so during the ten days of the Berlinale.“, said Thomas Meier, CEO, Glashütte Original. ”To present our precise German art of engineering on this generous stage, to show just how the sense of life in a big city today is reflected in our watches – that’s what makes our partnership with the Festival so valuable.”

In anticipation for the 68th Berlinale: “Movie Capitals of the World” In the weeks before the opening of the 68th Berlinale, 11 world film cities will host “Movie Capitals of the World“: From New York to Tokyo and on to Moscow, Venice and Los Angeles, watches from Glashütte Original will step into leading roles on famous film sets and put fans of the brand into the mood for the Berlinale. In New York, for example, the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date will evoke, with stylish flair, the iconic “Taxi Driver“, while in Tokyo, the city of “Godzilla” and “Lost in Translation“, the Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar will make, as always, an elegant
appearance. Watch and film fans can follow the journey on the manufactory’s social media channels and on the dedicated microsite, http://berlinale.glashuette-original.com.
