Children Conquer Math Demon This Dussehra

The students of Think Stations, an after-school development centre celebrated Dussehra in an innovative way by enacting other origin stories related to the festival and made chocolate ladoos to learn maths and the science behind the reversible changes chocolate goes through. . The main aim of this activity was to make children know the importance of Dussehra as well as learn maths and science in a fun and interesting manner.

Gayatri Singh Founder & CEO of Think Stations said, “The program focused on 21st century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, teamwork and communication while educating children about their culture in a fun and engaging way.” We have integrated the skills through the discussions on characters as well as science behind making methai.

The faculty members of Think Stations conducted many activities and also taught the significance of Dussehra- tracing its history and how Dussehra is celebrated across India due to the various origin stories believed in the various regions of the country. While making chocolate ladoos they learnt the ratio and proportion of the quantity to be used, importance of quantity measures, understand the concept of one-third, two-third and change in the state of matter (Solid-liquid-gas).

Ananya, Student of Think Stations said, “Wow! I never knew there were so many reasons we celebrate Dussehra,”  “Making chocolate laddos was so much fun and super yummy and I learn how to measure ingredients using maths.

Children also learnt about how good overcome evil in most Indian myths and stories, and how to ensure they can overcome their weaknesses in reality. They also discussed personal weaknesses and how to overcome them.

Think Stations is an after-school development centre, for children from 7-14 years. The centre was launched under the aegis of Team Explore, a community for parents, teachers and children. It focuses on developing and incorporating 21st century skills for empowering young minds. The framework of the curriculum of Think Stations emphasizes on importance of the 5 Cs: Comprehension, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking.
