Caring for the Planet! A closer look at the British Council Kolkata’s Summer School

british councilThe British Council in Kolkata is pleased to announce details of the Summer School courses for 2015.

 

Our Young Learner Summer School courses — with the theme of ‘Caring for the Planet!’ facilitate creative and imaginative thought while challenging and supporting learning and the development of communicative skills.

 

Children will study topics such as Endangered species, rainforests and wild animals’; ‘Saving the Earth, recycling and going green’; ‘Global issues, renewable resources and environmental concerns’, which will give them an opportunity to spend a constructive summer improving their language skills and developing confidence in an enjoyable, English immersion atmosphere.

 

In addition, we are offering general and spoken English courses as well as IELTS preparation and Creative Writing courses for adults who are keen to develop their language skills and expand their horizons by boosting their confidence and ability in English.

Courses for children:

 

  • Ace Teens (13 to 15 year olds)
  • Shining Stars (11 and 12 year olds)
  • Whizz Kids (8 to 10 year olds)

 

Classes for young learners will run at several convenient timeslots from Monday to Friday between 08.15 in the morning and 17.15 in the afternoon. By practicing speaking, listening, reading, writing and vocabulary and grammar children will develop clarity and confidence when using English.

 

The three week courses which lead to the completion of a themed project for young learners run over a 15-day period (Monday to Friday) from 18 May to 5 June 2015.

 

All our courses are specially designed to give children the English language skills to plan, design and complete fun and educational projects and tasks. Each two-hour lesson develops a new aspect of English and presents a new task or challenge. In the final lesson, the class will present a final performance for parents.

 

Each course will cover the following components:

 

  • Speaking skills for group-based problem solving and discussion tasks
  • Vocabulary and grammar input provides useful phrases and language for communicating in English
  • Audio-visual and website content to develop listening and reading skills
  • Development of knowledge about the World and associated themes
  • Project work leading to production of a class magazine and a final performance for parents to watch

IELTS Preparation

For those interested in living or studying abroad, our IELTS courses give you all the skills you need to maximise your score in this international standard measure of proficiency.

 

Creative Writing

Our specifically designed course offers the opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn a variety of techniques to improve your writing process and enhance creativity.

 

Our adult courses are ideally suited to people who want to spend the summer break cultivating their English language skills through challenging and innovative activities in an intensive and express format.

 

The Summer School programme from 18 May to 5 June 2015 offers our hugely popular 7-week course over a three week period to adult learners aged 16 years and above.
Classes are three hours per day and will run for 42 hours over three weeks from Monday to Friday. Prices are inclusive of all materials.

 

All students have to take a level test before registering to ensure that they take the course most suited to their ability and needs. Summer School classes for adults start on 18 May 2015.
