The employees of M/s Bridge & Roof Co (I), a Bengal based Profit making CPSU under the Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Govt. of India are left with no option but to go for a Mass Agitation at 11 a.m. at Kankaria Centre, 2/1 Russel Street, Kolkata-71. against the decision of the Govt. of India to sale off this heritage 97 years old Bengal’s pride profit making organization through 100% disinvestment .
The catastrophe of such unfortunate decision by the Govt. of India is unimaginable & has serious impact on the livelihood of thousands & thousands families who are connected to this organization. Apart from its 2200 employees on role, there are around 15000 indirect workmen who are deployed in company’s 200 projects sites all over India. It is still a mystery to every employee of the organization that under what parameters & compulsion, this profit making PSU has been considered to be sold off through 100% disinvestment.
The company on nomination basis are executing jobs worth of crores of Central & State Govt. & any change in the composition may lead to termination of such contracts. The Company is also executing huge jobs of Central public sectors like Oil & Gas, Power Plants, Ports & Steel plants all over India in addition to various State Govt. Projects specially in East & various strategic locations in the North-east region including Railway linking Rural development, PMGSY Road work, Bridges etc to link remote villages.
The Company is also executing contracts on Social Infrastructure development like low cost housing for economically weaker section, works with regard to various Disaster Management of various State Govt. The Company is also carrying out Infrastructural development work in North Eastern Regions mainly Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim & Assam on behalf of the Central Ministries. Disinvestment will result in rescinding of works & consequent implication on development of North-Eastern Region.
This may kindly be noted that the company is continuously making profit & paying dividend to the Govt. of India regularly. We strongly feel that Bridge & Roof does not deserve such degraded evaluation resulting in principal decision for 100% disinvestment by the Govt of India. The post disinvestment scenario in companies that have taken place in India as of now is very pathetic.
We must mention that this CPSU organization of national importance has been given the status of MINI RATNA by the Govt. of India. Sir, on national importance, this organization alone has been chosen by the defense authority of the country for various strategic constructions within the country. It will not be out of place to mention that this organization runs its show from its own generation & without Budgetary Support from the Govt. of India. Thousands & thousands of families directly or indirectly are connected to this particular organization for their bread & butter.
In this respect, we appeal to all of you to extend moral support in all respect to save this heritage profit making organization of the country from sale off to private parties through 100% disinvestment.
