Baselworld 2017 – New Models to drool on!

Tradition Dame 7038

The Tradition collection from Breguet belongs to the select circle of Haute Horlogerie icons. First introduced in 2005, it now welcomes a rose gold Tradition Dame. With this self-winding timepiece, Breguet has succeeded in feminising a model whose aesthetic essence lies in mechanical horology, a field that many tend to reserve for men. Clearly visible front and centre of the watch, the barrel is decorated with a rosette motif and overlapped at 12 o’clock, by a mother-of-pearl dial adorned with hand-crafted engine-turned “Clou de Paris” hobnailing. Although in full view, the movement bridges and gear trains remain sufficiently discreet to ensure smooth and instead of the hours and minutes. The sandblasted mainplate and bridges are rhodium-plated to create a pleasing contrast with the rose gold case set with 68 diamonds. At the heart of this Tradition Dame beats Calibre 505SR, equipped with a lever escapement with silicon pallets and a Breguet balance-spring also made of silicon.

HyperChrome Match Point

Official timekeeper to numerous tennis tournaments, Rado returns to its HyperChrome Match Point with new details and on-trend colours. Set against the blue dial, the chronograph minutes and seconds counters are marked 00, 15, 30 and 40, a nod to the scoring of a tennis match, while the hour counter at 6 o’clock adds to the tennis theme with its net design. A tachymeter scale with white superluminova coating, engraved on the polished bezel, accentuates the sporting style. Plasma high-tech ceramic confers a warm sheen that has the look of metal without any metal content, plus all the advantages of high-tech ceramic. Lightweight, shock-resistant and hypoallergenic, the HyperChrome Match Point is ideal when it comes to lifting that trophy with style. 999-piece limited series.

Classic Worldtimer Manufacture

Frederique Constant returns to its iconic Classic Worldtimer Manufacture with the presentation of this sophisticated “citizen of the world”. The golden tones of the case make a pleasing contrast with the chocolate colour of the dial, which is finely etched with a world map and circled by a day/night indicator, with 24 reference cities around the outer rim. The date is pointed by a hand in a subdial at 6 o’clock. A further circle of hour-markers ensures perfect legibility without detracting from the harmonious layout of the dial as a whole. This long-haul traveller packs some genuine feats of technique, orchestrated by Frederique Constant’s FC-718 proprietary movement. Not a single pusher or corrector spoils this watch’s clean lines, as each function is controlled by the crown for unparalleled simplicity of use. Indeed, this is a first for a worldtime complication.

Torpedo Pirata Chrono Day Date

Cuervo y Sobrinos looks to its Cuban origins and brings a Caribbean flavour to Swiss watchmaking. The new Torpedo Pirata Chrono Day Date offers a wealth of details, inspired by the buccaneers who once plundered ships along the Cuban coast. The lugs reproduce the bow of a pirate vessel, a design repeated in the buckle on the strap, while the crown has the shape of a globe. Visible through the sapphire crystal back, the automatic chronograph calibre with day/date calendar sits inside an ingenious case whose modular construction lends itself to all kinds of creativity, such as the use of steel; an innovation compared with previous Torpedo Pirata watches which are sculpted from bronze, a favourite metal of the great buccaneers of the seventeenth century.

T-Race MotoGP™ Automatic Limited Edition 2017

A symbol of the winning partnership between Tissot and MotoGPTM, this 2,017-piece limited edition has a champion’s mindset. Each detail has been carefully chosen to bring the exciting world of motorcycle racing to the wrist. The steel case with black and pink gold-coloured PVD incorporates pushers in the shape of foot-rests; the attachments recreate the form of a rear suspension bar. The crown-guard partly covers the rotating bezel to suggest the brake disc moving under the caliper. A tyre-tread pattern can be seen on the oscillating weight through the transparent wheel-rim case back. The dial counters take their cue from motorcycle gauges against a carbon-like material. The tyre-tread pattern is repeated on the strap for a sensation of speed and performance. Each watch in this limited edition is presented in a specially designed, helmet-shaped box.

Vingt-8 ISO

Voutilainen introduces a completely innovative display of the time based on System 1 and System 2 human behaviour, as studied by Nobel Prize-winner Daniel Kahneman. The Vingt-8 ISO breaks with System 1 behaviour, whereby time is read at a glance using a deeply entrenched “code”, and instead elicits System 2 behaviour in which telling the time acquires a deeper, more intellectual dimension. This heightened awareness of time is translated by hour and minute hands which are superimposed on each full hour, and opposed at each half-hour. The angle between the two hands is always the same, whatever the time. The secret lies with the minutes disc that turns with the hour hand so that the minute hand can mark the elapsed minutes.
Movement
Mechanical hand-wound, Vingt-8 calibre, designed, made and finished in the Voutilainen workshops, 33 jewels, 18,000 vib/h, new escapement with two escape wheels and direct impulse, Breguet/Grossmann balance-spring, plate and bridges in German silver, pink gold wheels, 65-hour power reserve.

Les Grandes Classiques – NUMBERED Semi-Skeleton Chronograph

Buoyed by the success of its skeleton-worked models, the Jura-based Aerowatch brand presents a new creation in a numbered edition. Right from first sight, this Skeleton Semi-Skeletonised Chronograph exudes an appealingly distinctive contemporary style, even though every stage of production is performed in keeping with the finest traditions of Swiss craftsmanship. Like a camera shutter, the cut-out black dial provides tantalising glimpses of transparent halos, revealing the complexity of a mechanical movement. Bridges, oscillating weight, gear trains and blued screws interact with infinite precision, in turn revealing chamfered, rhodium-plated, circular-grained and Côtes de Genève finishing. The enigmatic and intriguing dial features four counters with a resolutely 21st century design, respectively marking off the chronograph hours and minutes, small seconds, as as well as the date.

Big Square Chronograph

With its X-shaped bezel and XXL size, the Big Square Chronograph immediately sets the tone. As far removed as possible from the traditional round watch, it takes a 180° turn with an avant-garde design that goes against everything traditional watchmaking has known. Raised numerals 3, 6, 9 and 12 are the cardinal points on the case, surrounding a spectacular domed sapphire crystal also in the shape of an X. Designed by brand founder Shant Ghouchian, the hands move as if by magic beneath this signature X as if to symbolise Gvchiani’s arrival in the elite circle of luxury watchmaking. Made entirely in the Geneva region, this debut collection extends to titanium, black DLC titanium and anthracite DLC titanium, together with white or pink gold with different diamond-setting options. Each version is an 83-piece limited series.

Harmony

The latest model in the Harmony line is a watch featuring a surprisingly pure layout with offset large date aperture and retrograde day display. The small seconds at 6 o’clock provides a rigorously geometrical touch perfecting this subtle aesthetic balance. This new elegantly silver-toned creation from Bergstein evokes the majestic purity of the Alpine peaks from which the brand draws inspiration. Beneath its classical experience lies subtly staged and authentic stylistic sophistication. This elegant yet original watch proves that classic lines continue to appeal, particularly when they are interpreted in a refined manner so as to form a coherent whole. This unified approach is harmoniously complemented by a black leather strap.
