17th March 2015 :

Destitute, elderly people all over Madhya Pradesh are often abandoned by relatives who cannot afford to provide for their needs. The Archdiocese of Bhopal is pleased to announce its new socio-humanitarian initiative for the disabled and destitute old people, named as Karuna Sadan situated at 60, Sunrise Colony in Idgah Hills, Bhopal.

Karuna Sadan, the philanthropic and social venture of the Archdiocese of Bhopal, envisages to provide a dignified, decent and humane living situation for the aged people who are often marginalised by their families or the people of the society. In this way it aims to co-operate, participate and contribute to the building of an equal, just and fraternised society. This is in line with the teaching of Jesus in the Holy Gospel according to Mathew, chapter twenty five, verses thirty-five and thirty-six: “for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick you visited me.”

The Archbishop Dr Leo Cornelio said “That this is a step toward uplifting the humanity, and by serving others, especially the unwanted and uncared, we can bring about the Kingdom of God here on earth”.

He also added “ At Karuna Sadan, We seek to provide a roof for the destitutes who are sick, ailing and more than often physically disabled. We welcome any old gents of such kind and provide proper gentle and humane living condition for our in-mates. Food, medicine and nursing care are provided. Physical and spiritual needs of the in-mates are taken care of. Get into contact with the families of the in-mates, if they are known, and help them to be in contact with the in-mates.

The in-mates can feel at home here, as their own home. The staff and the in-mates interact as brothers and sisters of one family.Find a home away from home at the need, and spend the rest of your life in peace and joy.

The Archbishop Rev. Leo Cornelio, the Archbishop of Bhopal, is its patron, Rev. Fr Mathew VC, the Vicar General of the Archdiocese is the Coordinator and Fr Zackarias Thamarakattu MST is the Director of Karuna Sadan.
