Alacero announces finalists of 6th Steel Design Contest for Students of Architecture 2013

alaceroAlacero – Santiago, Chile. October 16th, 2013. The nine participating countries of the 6th Steel Design Contest for Students
of Architecture 2013 have already selected their local winners. These teams will travel to Lima next November 10th where -as part of Alacero-54 Congress- a jury of architects representing the participating countries will decide who deserves the final prize.
The 2013 version of the competition focuses on education and culture as core issues. Students presented a proposal for a Public Multimedia Library, as a space that allows the promotion of knowledge and culture among the community.
The contest was open to all countries members of Alacero. The first phase was carried out at a country level and developed by the local associations and companies. This year 9 countries participated (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela). A local jury selected the best project by country.
This, its 6th edition, gathered students coming from 7 Argentine universities, 41 Brazilian, 23 Chilean, 7 universities from Colombia, 4 Ecuadorian, 39 Mexican, 33 Peruvian, 4 from the Dominican Republic and 4 Venezuelan universities.
This contest is an initiative of Alacero aimed at promoting the relationship with steel as constructive material among future architecture professionals and at guiding them on the most efficient uses of the material according to its attributes. The First Prize is US$ 10,000 (US$ 6,000 for the students and US$ 4,000 for the University). The Second Prize is US$ 3,000 (US$ 2,000 for the students and US$ 1,000 for the University).
