Academy-Industry participation can improve students’ employability: IKJ PTU Vice Chancellor R K Verma

–    175 students of B.Tech and MBA (Executive) conferred degrees at 5th Convention of PTU Nalanda School of TQM & Entrepreneurship

Mohali, 28th November, 2015: The employability of the students passing out can improve if more and more industry come forward to partner with academic institutes in the country, said R.K. Verma, Vice Chancellor of IK Gujral Punjab Technical University here today at the 5th Convocation of Mohali-based PTU Nalanda School of TQM and Entrepreneurship.

There is a need to develop a culture of innovation, excellence and quality management to ensure that there is overall development in the country, and PTU, he said, was open to the ideas and inputs from industry in order to keep the curricula updated, improved and kept relevant.

RK Verma applauded the efforts of PTU Nalanda School of TQM & Entrepreneurship which is the constituent of IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, for maintaining close association with various industries across the region and providing opportunity for working professionals to complete higher education for B.Tech and MBA.

Dr. R.S. Khandpur, governing council member of PTU Nalanda, lamented the dearth of the design institutes in the country and hoped that Punjab would have one so that the industry could achieve excellence in new product development.

Chairman of PTU Nalanda, Padmashri Chandra Mohan requested more and more industry to come forward and take advantage of the institute’s inhouse capabilities to enhance the performance and quality management in their own organizations and that of their ancilliary units for better profitability.

The vice chancellor conferred degrees on 62 students of MBA (Executive) and 113 students of B.Tech.-Industrial Engineering and Management, with specialisation in Total Quality Management.

Mr. Manish Trehan, CEO of the School, while presenting the annual report for academic year 2014-15 informed that 57 projects were undertaken by the graduating B.Tech. students in the final semester, in their respective organisations, resulting in an average financial savings of Rs. 62 lacs per project per annum.  PTU Nalanda, he said has also introduced six months industrial training programme as well as Entrepreneurship Development Programme for the B.Tech students, who can opt for either of the two.

Addressing the graduating students and distinguished invitees from industry and academia, the guest of honour, Mr Viren Popli, Chief Operating Office, Mahindra & Mahindra (Swaraj Division) advised the passouts to develop right attitude of continued learning, integrity, honesty, and discipline that can spell success for them in life.
