Watch Space Month: all through November on Discovery Science, Monday to Friday at 10 PM
New Delhi, 18 November 2015: The curiosity of mankind is one of the main reasons for the great importance of space. During the last 50 years, we have explored the sun, planets, and moons, and expanded our knowledge of asteroids and comets. As part of the Apollo program, we visited our moon. Since then, we have learned a great deal about how we could potentially live and work in space from robots on Mars missions and people aboard the Mir, the space shuttle, and the International Space Station. More and more countries want to explore space, and private companies will soon carry out flights into orbit. But there are still many unanswered questions.
Discovery Science has dedicated a whole month to tell viewers everything they would like to know about the universe, space exploration and the search for intelligent life on other planets. Airing Monday to Friday at 10 PM on Discovery Science, SPACE MONTH brings in-depth analysis chronicling 50 years of unique achievements in space and exciting developments for the future.
To air on 20th November, IN SPACE: 50 YEARS OF SPACE EXPLORATION will feature the sensational Rosetta Mission, the 2014 ISS Crew and the upcoming Mercury and planned Mars missions. In 2014 the European Space Agency (ESA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) celebrated their 50-year collaboration for space exploration and technology development with the Rosetta project, a 10-year journey of some seven billion kilometers. With the support of ESA and others, IN SPACE: 50 YEARS OF SPACE EXPLORATION will trace the journey of human spaceflight and space exploration of the last 50 years, as well as private projects like Google’s Lunar X Project and private space travel projects such as Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and also take a glimpse into BepiColombo spacecraft Europe’s first future mission to Mercury, as well as the return to the Moon and human space travel to Mars. This special episode will define how space travel has enhanced our knowledge of the universe and the ground-breaking future ahead where the secrets of its origins will be revealed.
To air on 24th & 25th November, UNRAVELLING THE COSMOS will take an immersive tour of the vast scale and extreme distances in our universe. This users’ guide to the cosmos will bring the incomprehensible down to a human scale such as Venus melting a tank, the density of a black hole compared to 1000 cars in a Coke can, and the comets in the Solar System equated to grains of sugar weighing half a ton.
To air on 27th November, ONE GIANT LEAP will highlight the remarkable story of the United States journey to the moon, the landmark mission that inspired Americans during a time when violence and turmoil dominated headlines. The programme chronicles the tragedies, fears, and pressures of the 1960s space race, leading to a remarkable miracle that united and inspired Americans across the nation. Interviews with the surviving astronauts, families, and other key players, along with stunning high-definition NASA films and never-before-seen home movie collections, transport viewers back in time to discover a fascinating, untold story of one of the greatest events in the human history.
