New Delhi, 29th January, 2018: On the occasion of Republic Day, students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology along with the Executive Director of the institute are all determined to change the way we look at street children.

The movement known as “Together we can CHANGE” is an initiative by the design students to educate and empower street children.

The students have successfully designed an NGO named Jamghat that aims to help children living, and working on the streets to realize their dreams and re-join society.

The union with Jamghat is one of its kinds as the Institute is adopting the NGO and plans to impart vocational training to the street children.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Rupal Dalal, Executive Director JD Institute of Fashion Technology,” Imagination has the power to create a Change. Being a design Institute, our students have the privilege to get trained and skilled in the field of design. We would like to extend the same knowledge to the children of Jamghat and children who seek for education as it will bring them closer to turning their dreams into reality. If we want harmony in the world, let’s start with the children”.

The aim is to work at the grass root level and focus on education or any project entailing empowerment of children.

The Institute’s humanitarian concern is channelized through various activities like World Elders Day, frequent demonstrations with PETA India, Indian Cancer Society and lot more.

Harsh Dalal, Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology said,” 18 million children. That’s the estimated number of children who either live or spend their days on the streets in India. This movement is all about adding hope and an ability to dream of a better future.  Giving back is the most important and priceless thing our students can learn apart from their usual course of design.”

As part of our commitment to Nutrition, Health and Wellness, on the occasion of International Chef Day, Nestlé India organized healthy cooking workshops for adolescents from marginalised communities in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. As part of these workshops, over 250 adolescents who are part of the Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme interacted with chefs to learn about the benefits of a variety of foods and create healthy recipes, helping turn them into ‘Healthy Heroes’.

Nestlé India believes that proper nutrition, adequate physical activity, good dietary habits and an active lifestyle are integral to maintaining good health. The objective of this activity was to encourage adolescents to consume a wider variety of foods by engaging them in the recipe preparation and making it fun and exciting.

Mr. Sanjay Khajuria, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Nestlé India Ltd. said “For this year’s International Chef’s Day, the theme is ‘Foods for healthy heroes’. With the input from Chefs, education and help, we wanted to use this opportunity to teach adolescents about healthy eating by letting them be creative with food. We believe good nutrition and creating awareness is the cornerstone for health and development. The Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme forms part of our commitment to improve nutrition through the promotion of greater awareness and understanding of balanced diet that needs to be accompanied with an active lifestyle.”

image0051Mumbai, 16th December, 2016: Women residing in the slums of Ramabai Nagar in Ghatkopar have learnt to use their money the cashless way, thanks to demonetisation.

Right from opening a bank account to operating an ATM machine, to not sharing their card PINs with strangers, the women have grasped the art of running their lives in a cashless economy.

Cox & Kings Foundation along with Ojus Medical Trust had zeroed in on the women residing in the slums of Pant Nagar and Ramabai Nagar, with whom they have been working for some time to make them independent and self-sustaining.

The women were ever willing to go cashless. With husband’s handing over their daily earnings to their wives, the women decided to get a grip of the cashless way of life.

Armed with smartphones (yes, a large number of women in the slums have smartphones though they were not aware of its multiple uses) were awestruck to learn that their phones could make their lives easy.

The women in the age group of  20 to 35 and with education upto class eighth learnt how their money was safe as they went about learning about debit and credit cards, e-wallets etc., some even wanted to go a step further and learned Internet banking.

Entering an ATM kiosk became a reality for the women who had till now looked at the machines from at distance but never dared enter it despite having cards.

These women are first-time card users. Their husbands and children are equally unaware about the cashless economy and the women have promised to make them go paperless too.

Cox & Kings Foundation along with Ojus Medical Trust have targeted to reach out to more than 1000 women in the next three months.

Sharing the vision of the cashless training session, Karan Anand, Head-Relationships, Cox & Kings said,” As the nation is working towards going cashless, we are participating in the movement to empower every section of our society and enable them to contribute to the nation’s progress.”

An instruction module, video courses and demonstrations are all part of the wholesome training session that the Foundation and Trust have created in widening the reach.

Dr Asavari, Managing Director, Ojus Medical Trust said,” Cashless economy is the future. Under our skill development programme along with Cox & Kings Foundation, we continue to empower women from the marginal background. The success of these sessions can be judged by how excited the women are to go cashless and digital”

Currently the programme has covered more than 100 women in Ghatkopar Suburb of Mumbai and carrying out follow up sessions to assess the learning progress.

Panchkula,  14 June 2016: In a bid to educate women about the various changes their bodies undergo during menopause, Paras Bliss Hospital, Panchkula, today organized a camp on the subject. The session focused on addressing the various concerns, physical, emotional, and mental, faced by women in their 40s and 50s.

Menopause represents the end of a woman’s reproductive life, and can be a stressful period. A fall in the protective hormone, estrogen, makes a woman vulnerable to cardiovascular diseases, as well as bone and skin-related problems.

The camp had Dr Nirja Chawla, Director, Obstetrics-Gynecology, Infertility, IVF, Laparoscopic Surgery, Allied Services and Dr Heena Chawla, Consultant Laparoscopic Gynecologist, Paras Bliss Hospital, addressing the gathering of 50 women, who came to attend the session.

“Menopause brings along numerous hormonal changes in the body. It affects both physical and mental health, and every woman has her own experience with it, both in terms of age and emotions. Some women feel a sense of relief, especially if it comes at a time when it is due—between 50 and 55. However, when it comes early, as we are increasingly seeing these days, sometimes as early as 30, women suffer mentally and emotionally too. Issues such as vaginal dryness, urinary problems, sleep disturbances, and mood and behavioral changes are common during the stage. Women may also see a rise in body weight, which may be distressing. Simple practices, such as deep breathing and exercise help alleviate the stress and anxiety at this time,” said Dr Nirja Chawla.

The seven-hour long clinic, which started at 10 a.m., had special sessions on joint care and mobilization exercises. Women were educated about the onset of rapid bone mineral depletion, osteoporosis, and ways to counter this, after menopause.

“Osteoporosis is common with post-menopausal women, as low levels of estrogen lead to low bone density, making the bone brittle, hence fragile. Women with postmenopausal osteoporosis are susceptible to fractures of their hips, wrists, and spine. Therefore, joint mobility exercises help in preventing the condition. These exercises could include strength-training and the building of certain muscles. Practising these exercises regularly ensures flexibility and mobility. It also relaxes the joints by reducing soreness,” said Dr Heena Chawla.

Paras Bliss Hospital, Panchkula organizes prenatal classes to help, guide and educate women planning pregnancy

  • Prenatal classes help women planning for pregnancy to opt healthy and safe approach to pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting practice

  • The classes cover wide variety of subjects including need for pre-conception tests, pre and post pregnancy, nutrition and prenatal yoga

Aerobics Bhangra2 gynae _1 Nutritional talk Yoga talk Yoga ZumbaPanchkula, January 19, 2016: Pregnancy is the most cherished period in a woman’s life. While the woman has the responsibility to bring a new life into the world, her body undergoes dramatic changes and stress. This calls for special care and expert advice on right nutrition, exercise, and efforts needed to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

Not just during pregnancy, couples also need careful guidance, precautions and preparation before conception to ensure there are no complications for the child.

In a bid to help women planning to take the next step towards motherhood, specialists at Paras Bliss Hospital for Mother & Child organized special prenatal classes today with the aim to help would-be mothers prepare for conception, pregnancy, labor, birth, and early parenthood.

“The prenatal classes initiative by Paras Bliss envisions to serve as a resource for information about what to expect and what choices are available during the childbearing years. In today’s world timelines and hectic lifestyle we want to hold your hand to experience healthy and happy pregnancy. Women today are much better aware as well as inquisitive and have many questions regarding healthy conception and pregnancy. With a lot of information available on the Internet, they sometimes get confused and look for experts to answer their queries. We want to educate women about comprehensive pre-conception and pre-natal care. In addition, we want to promote a natural, healthy and safe approach to pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting practices,” said Dr. Rishi Mangat, Centre Head, Paras Bliss Hospital.

Open to everyone, the prenatal classes attracted participation of over 100 women. The session was conducted in three sessions in the hospital premises and addressing multiple concerns of pregnancy including nutrition, weight management, and importance of aerobics, yoga and other fitness training.

First session, taken by Dr Shilva, Consultant Obs & Gynae, Paras Bliss Hospital focused on history of concern. The participants were educated about the importance of staying healthy before pregnancy as it has a direct impact on the health during pregnancy. The session further talked about preconception program that benefits women by reducing risks, promoting healthy lifestyle and improve readiness for pregnancy.

“Deciding to get pregnant is a major decision. Conceiving is not an easy process and requires both health and mind to be prepared to take the leap. Therefore, while it is important to maintain health during pregnancy, it is equally important to remain in good health before pregnancy as well. A major part of the nutrition given to the body during pregnancy is partaken by the fetus. Therefore, it becomes important for a woman to store her nutrition much in advance before she decides to get pregnant. Likewise, it is important for a woman to stay healthy and take nutritional food before she gets pregnant,” said Dr Shilva, Consultant Obs & Gynae, Paras Bliss Hospital.

The second session was conducted in Yoga and was taken by Ms. Parmila Sharma, HOD Physiotherapy Paras Bliss. During the session the doctor highlighted the benefits of yoga as it helps to breathe deeply and relax, as you face the physical demands of labor, birth, and motherhood.

In third session, Ms. Gunjan Pannu, Chief Clinical Dietician, Paras Bliss Hospital enlightened participants about importance of nutrition and health pre and post pregnancy. During the session, she highlighted on the importance of nutrition as it helps to determine fetal growth and therefore size and health of infant at birth.

“With awareness and will to conceive and deliver healthily, the trend of prenatal classes is gaining pace in India. The classes help women who are planning to get pregnant understand the nuances of pregnancy. These classes teach the would-be mothers about pregnancy, labor, delivery, postpartum recovery and baby care. At Paras Bliss Hospital, Panchkula, the thrust to organize the class was to equip such women with the technical know-how, physical fitness and emotional competence to embrace the experience of childbirth in a confident and positive manner,” said Dr. Rishi Mangat, Centre Head, Paras Bliss Hospital.

With the classes, the prime focus of the hospital was to promote happy health in females and happy birthing. The classes helped the participant women gain knowledge about the pre pregnancy and post pregnancy health.

• Did you know today 4 out of 10 children’s performance in school suffers due to poor vision

Lucknow, July 2015: With as many as 550 million Indians living with uncorrected vision, the country suffers major health and economic consequences of this seemingly minor concern.Lack of awareness and absence of easy access to corrective measures remain crucial factors responsible for this gap, Essilor, the world leader in ophthalmic optics, is launching a majorawareness campaign across Lucknow to educate people about the need for timely vision correction.

The estimated economic impact of uncorrected vision stands at a staggering Rs 200000 Crores in lost productivity annually in the Indian sub-continent alone, as per the Vision Impact Institute*.In a study** conducted among working men and women -wearing spectacles – increased productivity by 34% and 20% increase in income. With a population of 4.5 million people, Lucknow is one such Indian city that needs to put emphasis on vision correction where unfortunately it is not a priority.

In its effort to create awareness about the consequences of not giving importance to your eyes, Essilor is kicking off a 40-day campaign in Lucknow. The “Apne Ankhon ki sochiye” campaign is aimed at educating masses about the benefits of visual health. It focuses on the simple step of getting your eyes tested and wearing spectacles if needed, to correct vision. Another focus of the campaign is to inculcate the importance of getting an annual comprehensive eye exam, which helps in early detection of eye related issues like Glaucoma, Cataract and AMD (age related macular degeneration)

Mr Shivkumar J CEO Essilor India“Nearly half of India’s population needs vision correction.Despite high rates of literacy, eye care awareness in the city of Lucknow is limited. Based on findings, 70% of the reasons for uncorrected refractive errors are non-financial such as lack of awareness, avoidance and lack of priority. We want to bring focus to eye care and how vision correction can lead to change in every person life” said Mr. Shiv Kumar J, CEO, Essilor India.

Essilor will kickstart the campaign on 23 July, with a walk for vision flagged off by flamboyant Indian batsman, Virender Sehwag who will not only participate in the walk but will also be the first to get his eyes screened. The “Apne Ankhon ki sochiye” campaign is strongly supported and endorsed by Vision Impact InstituteVision 2020IVI (India Vision Institute) and OCI (Optometry council of India)

Essilor has tied up with more than 100 leading eye care professionals in Lucknow to provide free eye screenings to people, and educate them about eye care. They will be facilitating eye screenings at various schools, colleges, residential societies and other populated areas across the city,

DSC_0105 DSC_0134 DSC_0143 DSC_0147 DSC_0153 DSC_0178“Most of the time, vision correction is as simple as wearing a pair of corrective spectacles. Yet, 2.5 billion people across the world are living with uncorrected vision. This lack of vision correction has several repercussions from making people accident prone to reducing their productivity. As a world leader, Essilor considers it a responsibility to take vision correction to the last man, and we are working  towards it on multiple fronts – through mobile screening vans in rural India to one on eye screenings supported by opticians in the urban towns.” said Mr. Ramachandran P Group COO Essilor India.

The campaign is strongly supported and endorsed by Vision Impact InstituteVision 2020IVI (India Vision Institute) and OCI (Optometry council of India). “Apne Ankhon ki sochiye” is an initiative to highlight the dangers and consequences of poor eyesight. Globally, 60% of road accidents happen because of poor vision of drivers. Under the campaign, leading opticians will hold free screenings at prominent locations like optical stores, schools, colleges, corporate parks, malls, airports etc to identify people who need vision correction.

As per studies, the risk of failing a grade is 3 times more for children who have visual acuity below 20/20 versus children with good visual acuity. Today 4 out of 10 children’s performance in school suffers due to poor vision.

In India not many people consider it important to get their eyes tested. This campaign also wants to emphasize the importance of regular eye check-ups, much like the regular body health check-ups. Regular eye check-ups can detect eye problems such as cataract or glaucoma early on, and offer solutions.

New Delhi, 3rd May, 2015: 31% of India is overweight, and lifestyle disorders are becoming more and more common. The sedentary lifestyle is giving rise to obesity and other health problems. If we want to make a difference to our lives and the community around us, we need to focus on fitness. Research done by the American Heart Association shows that all it takes is 10,000 steps of walking every day for us to be fit. Most of us rush into enrolling at a gym or take up a regimen that we are not able to follow through on. This further demotivates us, and still keeps us away from reaching our goal of fitness. ·        FORTIS FEHI study shows youth under 25 at a greater risk for Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)

·         100% increases in cardiac diseases in people under 45 years of age

April 11, 2015, New Delhi: In an effort to spread awareness of the rising cause of cardiac diseases in the youth, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (FEHI) is organizing a mega camp at Dwarka, a first on ground initiative to educate youth to lead a healthy lifestyle and dietary and regular exercise pattern.

FEHI has been deeply involved in the delivery of heart care in the country for 25 years. During this time, doctors are pointing at an increasing pattern of the disease affecting the youth, especially in the recent few years. FEHI studies have helped to identify what ails the young Indian heart to take prevention and the cure of cardiac diseases to a more comprehensive and advanced level.

The team of doctors who will be present to interact with the youth at the Mega Camp include Dr. Ashok Seth, Chairman, Dr. T S Kler, Executive Director, Cardiac Sciences; Dr. Atul Mathur, Director Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Praveer Agarwal, Director Interventional Cardiology; Dr. Z S Meharwal, Director of Cardiac Surgery, Dr. Yugal Mishra, Director Department of Cardiac Surgery and Dr. Aparna Jaswal, Principal Consultant in the Department of Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology.

With this objective, FEHI will be reaching out to India’s youth with several on ground engagement initiatives to educate youth in their 20’s and 30s, who may now be susceptible to the disease. The doctors will encourage the youth to follow a healthy lifestyle and conduct heart disease screenings across multiple locations and touch points. They will also inculcate an understanding of heart diseases in children among parents and teachers.

Doctors will be covering various aspects of cardiac diseases and focusing on how India is the global capital for diabetes and hypertension.  With the highest population affected with these disorders recorded and how these two disorders are bases for any disease particularly the heart, the team of doctors from FEHI will stress upon the factors that are or can be a risk to the most important organ in the body. They will also educate them on prevention of the risks and minimalizing them through a sustained regime of well managed lifestyle; healthy dietary foods and disciplined physical exercises/ fitness.

The camp, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, will extend free consultation and tests to the people who will attend the event to determine the levels of damages.

Dr Ashok Seth, Chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Delhi, said, “Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer in India and Asia. It is increasingly affecting younger people over the last 10-15 years. The spike in cardiac diseases in the Youth is due to sedentary and stressful lifestyles that accompany high pressure jobs. Unhealthy diets and addictions like smoking and tobacco chewing are added factors. With changing social norms, women today enjoy an equal footing in the society and are working longer hours, shouldering greater stress and dual responsibility of home and career. All these aspects exacerbate the early onset of the disease.”

“With over 3 million deaths due to cardiovascular diseases every year, India will likely be the ‘heart disease capital of the world’, in a few years. It is estimated that by 2020, cardiovascular disease will be the cause of over 40 per cent deaths and nearly 50% deaths will be from India. Coronary artery disease has risen 10 times in the young men aged less than 40 years in the last 20 years and the average age of heart attack is also getting lower with nearly 50% of the Indian population in youth less than 30 years in the next 15 – 20 years could create an epidemic of heart disease unless we start taking precautions in our childhood and early adulthood. Each one of us therefore carries the responsibility of alleviating this potential burden by propagating the need for a healthy lifestyle,” Dr. Seth added.

Heart ailments have become the biggest killer in the country. The current scenario demands an immediate emphasis be laid on preventive healthcare. This involves raising awareness about the disease and its risk factors. Efforts should be made to stop leading an unhealthy lifestyle which may lead to a cardiovascular disease later for which the education and guidance should begin early.

Dr. Somesh Mittal, Facility Director, FEHI said, “In a span of 8 years, there has been a 100% increase in below 45 years age group admitted at FEHI for Coronary Artery Diseases (CAD) from 2004 to 2011. Of this, the majority increase has been in the age group less than 25 years. People in the age group 25-44 years demonstrated a stable trend for CAD. With our team of doctors who are unparalleled in their level of skills and achievement, conducting public education programmes, workshops and counseling sessions for creating awareness at a mass level will go a long way.”

Cardiovascular diseases would be the largest cause of death and disability in India by 2020 as per a World Health Organisation (WHO) report. According to recent data, approximately 30 percent of the urban population and 15 percent of the population living in rural areas suffer from high blood pressure and heart attacks. As the risk factors of heart ailments increase, so does the mortality rate. 2.4 million Indians die due to heart disease every year. The average age of people with heart ailments is coming down to patients as young as 20 years of age.

The project required a total sum of 30 Lakhs. In order to raise fund for the initiative, they conducted a play with Sharman Joshi, named ‘Raju Raja Ram Aur Main’ , with tickets ranging from INR 300 to INR 1500, along with sponsorship opportunities.

The event was promoted enthusiastically by VivaConnect so that maximum funds could be raised for the cause. They utilized their digital platform, OBDs (OutBound Dialing), to spread the awareness about the event, and to urge the people to donate generously for the cause. Mr. Vikram Raichura, Managing Director – VivaConnect said, “ We are glad to be a part of this noble initiative. It feels wonderful to contribute in such events, as nothing can help a nation more, than a school for deserving but underprivileged children.”

The event was a huge success, with high executives, technocrats and professionals from various industries as its audience.  Raju Raja Ram Aur Main, was a story of mixed-up confusions following the life of Madan Sukhnandani – an old but rich industrialist, his young wife and his loyal yet disloyal personal assistant. The performance was followed by a huge applause, with tears of joy in many eyes. Extravagant comedy, aesthetic acting,  and a noble initiative gave the event a mesmerizing touch.
