Plessey wins Manufacturing Business of the Year Award

PLYMOUTH, ENGLAND – 18 April 2016 – Plessey announced today that it has been awarded the Manufacturing Business Award 2016 for large businesses by the Plymouth Herald. The awards, now in their sixth year, are a celebration of the city’s most dynamic companies as well as an opportunity for shining a light on the skills of the talented individuals that work in them. The awards, presented at a gala dinner at the Plymouth Pavilions on Thursday 14th April, were attended by more than 600 guests, including some of the leaders of Plymouth’s business community.
Running up to the event, Paul Burton, Editor of the Herald, said; “If the success of the businesses shortlisted is anything to go by, the Plymouth’s future is assured. It wasn’t just the number of entries that marked out this latest ceremony but the quality of them, with plenty of evidence of ambition and innovation that we hope will drive the city forward. Being nominated for The Herald Business Awards puts a business in an elite bracket, and all shortlisted firms and individuals should be proud of their success.”
Mike Snaith, Plessey Operations Director, who attended the event together with some of the employees of Plessey, commented; “We are honoured to be recognised by The Plymouth Herald with this prestigious award and grateful to the sponsors, City College Plymouth, Plymouth University and BD (Becton, Dickenson and Company), for their support. This award recognises the importance of the individuals we employ, without whose talent and dedication we would not have been considered for this award. With their support, our GaN-on-Si LED lighting manufacturing expansion plans are well on track, which is highly significant not only for Plessey, but also for the local economy.”
Neil Harper, Plessey’s Director LED Product Line, added: “We are entering a very exciting period for the company with our new technology and products now gaining traction in one of the fastest growing technology markets — solid state lighting. Our recent wins in horticultural and human centric lighting are proof of the long term viability for Plessey and its LED manufacturing strategy.”
Plessey recently announced it had signed a license agreement for the manufacture and supply of PhytoLux® LED grow light fixtures.
