IIM Lucknow’s Annual Lucknow Kids Run

Indian-Institute-of-Management-IIM-LucknowIIM Lucknow’s Manfest-Varchasva in association with the Women and Child Welfare Department hosted its first ever 1 mile run for children on the occasion of children’s day on the theme of “Every Child deserves a home.” Over 700 children took part in the mini-marathon and were accompanied by parents and teachers who came to the venue to showcase solidarity towards the cause.

Innocent and impressionable children are subjected to various forms of violence and inhuman treatment, making them shut themselves out or walk the path of violence as adults. In order to raise awareness for the cause,Women and Child Welfare Department is conducting a plethora of events over the next 3 days.

The run took place in front of Lohia Park in Gomti Nagar and required children to cover a distance of 1 mile. The run was flagged off by Mr. Bhawani Singh, Director of Women and Child Welfare Department, who was also the chief guest at the event. The participants included children from over 10 schools across the city including Riverside, Vibgyor, St. Francis, Kendriya Vidyalaya I.I.M. and Prerna School.

Karan Rajput stood 1st among the boys and Gauree Singh stood 1st among the girls in the Junior Category. In the Senior Category, Ajay Sharma and Sandhya Yadav reached the finish line the 1st among the boys and girls respectively.

The winners were awarded medals and t-shirts were provided to all participants. A certificate of participation was awarded upon successful completion of the race.

Manfest-Varchasva is the Annual Business, Cultural and Sports Festival of IIM Lucknow and is scheduled to be held between 18th-20th November, 2016 at the IIM Lucknow Campus. Lucknow City Run, a marathon for the cause ‘Every Child deserves a home’ is scheduled to be held on 20th November in association with Women and Child Welfare Department with prizes worth INR 1 lakh. The run will be organized for men, women and children across 10km and 5km tracks.
