16.12.2017/ DELHI- December 16 will always be a blemish for the capital’s heart which will be annually remembered as the voice of Nirbhaya will always resonate.  Though her accused have been awarded punishment but this cannot fill the wound faced by her and parents.

In memory of beloved Nirbhaya, her parents observe Nirbhaya Chetna Divas every year. Like every year, this year also the day was observed at Constitution Club, New Delhi where Nirbhaya was first given a glowing floral tribute. The audience kept a two-minute silence in her honour followed by a discussion on the safety scenario of women in the country.

Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal said, “Every year we all gather on this date and look back and see how we have worked towards improving the safety conditions in the city and what needs improvement further. I promise that next year when we meet to pay tribute to Nirbhaya I will present my balance sheet in front of you and tell you on what all steps I have worked for women safety. I promise to install street lamps and CCTVs in the city. I invite the people of Delhi to send me details of dark spots and other “unsafe” areas and the government will install cameras and lights free of cost there”.

Among the other dignitaries present on the occasion were former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Union Environment Minister Dr Harshvardhan, former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, former Union Minister of State R.P. N. Singh, former minister Akhilesh Singh, president of Delhi Mahila Yoga, Swati Maliwal, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, former Delhi women commission chairman Mamta Sharma, Janvada Mahila Morcha’s Brinda Karat, Congress leader Shobha Ojha, Shazia Ilmi, Sushma Shahu, Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust’s General Secretary Sarvesh Tiwari, mother Asha Devi and father Badree Nath and other social activists along with students were present.

After the gruesome incident, people were confident that things would change but  they haven’t. The Nirbhaya Chetna Divas not only pays tribute to fearless Nirbhaya, it also voices of atrocities on girls and women.

Present at the occasion, Sarvesh Tiwari, General Secretary of Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust said,  “Nirbhaya today is the voice of the girls who are fighting against tyranny. The objective of the Trust is to help such women and subsequently, we will all be able to offer true tribute to this brave daughter. It is necessary that the society and the government should work together in this direction to improve the women safety.”

“When I saw the entire country standing for Nibhaya justice, I thought things would change, but daughters are still becoming the victims of heinous crimes. I lost my daughter but her accused are still alive. Justice should be given on time so that people have their faith on it. There is a need of strong law against it and there is a need of change in the mentality of every person, whether he is a politician or a commoner,” said Asha Devi, mother of Nirbhaya.

Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust founded by the parents of Nirbhaya helps women who are fighting for the justice. Her mother leaves no stone unturned to help every woman who is the victim of any heinous crime.

The infamous Delhi gangrape case of 2012, often dubbed as the ‘Nirbhaya’ case, was an unfortunate incident that brought tens of thousands on the streets in protest and soon turned into a wave against issues of sexual violence. It would be foolish to imagine that the swiftness with which the Delhi gang rape was dealt would have been a deterrent on future acts of violence. But it does appear to have set in motion a fundamental rethinking about violence on women. The Delhi rape victim should be remembered not just for Nirbhaya’s extraordinary courage but also for raising a curtain on the very kind of violence the women of our country are suffering.

The 3.20 minute film called Dr. B.R. Ambedkar – Jewel in India’s crown is inspired from the life and teachings of the father of Indian constitution

Bangalore, April 20, 2016: On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, four students of Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) released a short film paying tribute to the father of Indian constitution.

The 3.20 minute, motion graphic film called Dr. B.R. Ambedkar – Jewel in India’s crown has been made by the four students of MAAC Bangalore, with assistance from Ravi Kiran, Technical Faculty, MAAC Indiranagar; and were mentored by Amit Dang, Zonal Academics Head – (South), MAAC.

The film was released on 16^th April at Bangalore during an event organized by Bangalore Political Action Committee (BPAC) to celebrate the 125^th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.

The Film was screened at UB City Mall Bangalore and in the presence of Padmashree Mohan Das Pai, Vice Chairman BPAC; Brand Consultant, Harish Bijoor; actor Prakash Belwadi; and many other luminaries.

Paying tribute to Babasaheb, Shajan Samuel, Senior Vice President, MAAC said, “Dr Ambedkar’s ideals are as relevant today as they were 60 years ago. His life has been about challenge, courage and change. There is something for everybody to learn from the life and teachings of B.R. Ambedkar. He suffered severe discrimination yet rose to the top through sheer talent. He is a role model for all Indians and his life story should be taught at all schools so that our future generations will be inspired by him and live their dreams, with Dr Ambedkar as their hero.”

PARENTS PAY TRIBUTE TO MEDICAL TEAM FOR “MIRACLE” SURVIVAL OF PREMATURE BABY

Boy who weighed less than an iPad may be most premature to be born in UAE, says Zulekha Hospital doctor

Dubai, UAE, 7 February 2016: The parents of a baby who weighed less than an iPad when born 14 weeks prematurely in Dubai have paid an emotional tribute to the medical team who performed a “miracle” to keep their son alive.

Digital sales specialist Christopher Sacramento and his wife Susie have been told that son Nicholas is possibly the most premature baby to survive in the UAE.

He was born when Mrs Sacramento was in her 23^rd week of pregnancy, weighing just 530 grams, and spent almost four months in Zulekha Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Dubai.

Nicholas – classed as a micro preemie because he weighed less than 900 grams – is now doing well at home with his parents. But at one point doctors feared the child may not live because his skin was so delicate it would tear if they touched it.

They have now been praised by Mr Sacramento in a letter to Dr Zulekha Daud, Chairperson of Zulekha Hospitals and one of the pioneers of healthcare in UAE.

“We stayed in hospital for almost four months,” he said. “It is long and very emotional. It is very challenging, but full of miracle.”

Added Mr Sacramento: “You have a great team. A team you can trust and consider a family. Not all patients see your team at the NICU pray for all the babies. But we see them do it every day.

“Your team have the passion for their duties and responsibilities. But most of all, they have the heart, they share the same pain, they share their happiness, they share their love.”

In the letter, Mr Sacramento paid special tribute to Consultant Neonatologist Dr Monika Kaushal, doctors: Rensa Sherif, Shumail Ahmed Malik, Abdul Aziz Usman Qureshi, Abdul Malik Jawaid, Mamta Surendra Bothra, along with Sister Manju Abraham, Jyotheendra, and all other nurses at the NICU team who watched his son during his stay at the hospital.

Dr. Kaushal said: “Nicholas is likely to be the most premature baby to survive in this country. At birth he weighed just 530 gm, much less than an iPad.”

“He belongs to a new group of babies known as micro-preemies as they weigh less than 900 gm. The chance of survival and normal development for a 23-week preterm infant is normally very bleak and Nicholas’s survival is intact since there was no damage to brain, lungs or eyes.”

Dr Kaushal added: “While the first ‘golden hour’ after birth is crucial for premature babies, this is reduced to a ‘golden ten minutes’ in neonatal care.”

“Nicholas was given special medicine for his lungs, special equipment for temperature maintenance, transport, and hooked to a ventilator in NICU. He survived despite having immature lungs, immature gut, brain and skin, fragile bones and, above all, infections. We could not touch him as his skin would tear instantly.”

But after 110 days of nurturing in the Zulekha Hospital NICU in Dubai, Nicholas, weighing a much healthier 1.9 kg, was able to go home with his parents.

Mr. Taher Shams, Managing Director said, “We offer heartfelt congratulations to Nicolas’ parents and our team who have worked passionately in ensuring the most efficient, competent and courteous services to our customers in line with our vision as a leading healthcare provider.”

Currently, Nicholas requires special check-ups on his physical growth and neurological development on a weekly basis, but his visits to Zulekha Hospital should become less frequent with time, according to Dr Kaushal.

Artiste Mamta Sen (also journalist) showcased her painting collection ‘The Wait’ at Mumbai Art By Artists, Prince of Wales Museum, Coomarswamy Hall, Colaba, between January 23-25, 2015 at 11 am to 6 pm. The display evoked rave reviews from art connoisseurs and general visitors.

Mamta Sen says, “Sawantwadi, a former princely state and part of the Konkan belt of western coast of Maharashtra has the highest number of farmers who have almost abandoned their lands and have been working as migrants in neighbouring cities for many years. The women and children left behind by their husbands eventually end up as mere ‘protectors’ of the lands they once toiled in. These lands end up either being sold off under pressure to the local land mafia or abandoned, empty or left deserted.  The women have no skills or techniques empowered to make use of their own fertile lands. The paintings mostly acrylics of canvas, highlight the plight of these women and their circumstances. These are the first of the series of the region.”

Mamta Chitnis Sen

Born and brought up in Mumbai, the subjects of Mamta Chitnis Sen’s works are concentrated on rural Maharashtra. A journalist and an extensive traveller, Mamta, an alumni of Sir J J School of Art  has been instrumental in creating paintings in oils and acrylics documenting the slow yet disappearing lives and identity of people, especially women living in rural India. A palette knife artist, Mamta aims to showcase the rustic rural landscape of interior India, specially Maharashtra and Bengal through her works, which is losing itself to the ills of urbanization. Her present exhibition The Wait revolving around the women of Sawantwadi is one such display of works that highlights the subject of migrant defection to cities leaving the women behind to look after the deserted and abandoned dry fields.

Mamta’s experience in making use of art and experimental theatre as a medium with women to touch upon the various social and current issues that they undergo in various spectrum of society also forms the basis of her works which depict both men and women in single or in groups bonding together to voice an emotion. She founded CanvasClan, a congregation of painters from various age groups in 2011 and organised two art exhibitions under the banner—Random Strokes (at Sir J J School of Art) and Resurrection Bihar (in celebration of 100 years of Bihar state) in Mumbai in 2012. She has also exhibited her works in several group shows across India and is in the process of documenting the art history of her alma mater Sir J J School of Art and its allied branches pre and post 1857 when the Institute was first founded.

The first part of her study on the existence of a state of the art Pottery Department in Mumbai at the Institute’s campus grounds by the British has been published in Rug-Ved, the Institute’s annual journal. The article sheds light on an abolished pottery building set up by the British between 1873-1875 which grew to such fame and glory that it threatened the sales of the famed Wedgewood Company in London. The building was later torn down in 1926 following the terrible plague which led to the decline of pottery students frequenting the campus premises thereby affecting the production and sale of ceramic products.

An avid art enthusiast cum artist and photographer, Mamta has also curated a photography exhibition “Loneliness in Wilderness’ showcasing the declining wildlife in urban areas of India.  Mamta is currently the Executive Editor of Dignity Dialogue, one of India’s foremost national magazines exclusively for the 50 plus age group. She has been a journalist with The Sunday Guardian writing on political issues and has also worked with reputed publications like Mid-Day, Society magazine and Sunday Observor. She volunteers as Social Network Officer with World Citizen Artists– a forum of international artists, musicians and writers founded in Paris in 2013.  She has also authored research papers on the evolving role of women in political parties in India.
