Noida, 11th December, 2015: The 4th Biennial IAM Conference was inaugurated today in the IIM Lucknow – Noida Campus by Dr Ajit Prasad, Director of IIM Lucknow. The theme of the conference revolves around “Managing in the Indian Context”. The conference, spanning over three days, is being attended by over 300 delegates, where they shall be making their paper presentations, mentoring doctoral students along with a junior faculty consortium.
The papers that are being presented revolve around 13 key topics like leadership, strategy & organization, entrepreneurship, innovation and new venture management to name a few. The day began with the doctoral consortium chaired by Professor Shailendra Singh. This was followed by parallel sessions on Research Design, Theory Building & Case Research Analysis & the junior faculty consortium. After this, two enlightening sessions were conducted by professors Sumit Kundu & Somanth Lahiri where they described the prerequisites towards writing better papers and the reasons for papers being rejected by journals. Professors Naresh Khatri, Arup Varma & Pawan Budhwar in their sessions brought out various shortcomings that plague manuscripts submitted to journals with the Indian context in mind. The session also sought to dispel several myths around manuscript submission and rejection. The professors advised that researchers and scholars must be persistent and persevere in the face of paper rejections. The common point was that the papers must ask the right questions and seek to answer them and not the amount of data crunching that goes into it.
Post lunch, the conference was inaugurated by Dr Ajit Prasad, Director of IIM Lucknow with a lamp lighting ceremony. This was followed by the keynote address by Professor Pradip N. Khandwalla, Chairman, Academic Council, AHRD – Ex Director IIM Ahmedabad. The professor in his speech contrasted on the differences between market driven economy and social welfare driven economy. He highlighted the economy of Sweden as an example of balance of the above two types of economies and how it has helped Sweden reach its current path of success and growth. He proceeded to describe a roadmap of how the Indian economy can also improve despite its several shortcomings.
He ended his speech on a high note by reciting lines from one of Tagore’s poems.
