The aerospace experts of the ThyssenKrupp Group will handle on behalf of the Airbus Group subsidiary the complete supply chain management of metallic raw materials. This includes procurement, logistics, quality assurance, and fine-tuning the management of blanks. These services will assure Airbus Helicopters efficient supplies throughout the world.

ThyssenKrupp Aerospace North America has again stepped up its cooperation with the Triumph Group, Inc. The Triumph Group, Inc., headquartered in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, is a global leader in manufacturing and overhauling aerospace structures, systems and components.A new contract extending over several years will mean that ThyssenKrupp´s aerospace specialist, ThyssenKrupp Aerospace North America, is taking over the supply chain services as well as materials processing and delivery of aluminum plates for altogether eight Triumph locations in North America. Handling just-in-time deliveries will be the Hutchinson location in Kansas.

Effective January 01, 2014, ThyssenKrupp Aerospace has acquired the aerospace operations of Willich/Germany-based Alimex Metallhandelsgesellschaft mbH.

ThyssenKrupp Aerospace is thus adding to its product portfolio and will continue Alimex’s business of distributing and processing aluminum mill products (rod, sheet, plate) for the aviation industry. All inventories and the customer network will also be transferred to ThyssenKrupp Aerospace. Alimex is withdrawing completely from the aerospace sector but will continue its other areas of business.

“The acquisition of Alimex’s aerospace business is a further step in our strategy to strengthen our market position and expand our product and service portfolio. For existing customers of Alimex, nothing will change – on the contrary, all supply and processing services will continue in the same quality and will be complemented by ThyssenKrupp Aerospace’s product line,” says Management Board member Sebastian Gudel.

ThyssenKrupp Aerospace, via its UK subsidiary, has acquired the business activities of The Waterjet Group, based in Darton, South Yorkshire/UK. The closing took place on July 31, 2013. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

The Waterjet Group (around 40 employees) was established in 2002 and is a leading UK waterjet cutting company for the aerospace industry. The company has several waterjets and related value add equipment, a large number of aerospace approvals and to a smaller extent also serves other high-tech industries, including the medical technology sector. The Waterjet Group operates out of a site near Leeds. With its equipment the company is able to process a wide range of materials and sizes for the European and international customer base.

ThyssenKrupp Aerospace has been working with The Waterjet Group for many years and will be integrating its employees, equipment and technical expertise into the ThyssenKrupp Aerospace global network.

“The acquisition of The Waterjet Group has strategic advantages for us,” explains Jürgen Funke, President of ThyssenKrupp Aerospace. “We have been successfully operating waterjet cutting facilities in the USA, Canada, Australia and Finland, the UK is a logical extension of these services. As the acquisition will considerably ease the logistics of waterjet cutting services, customers in other European markets will also benefit from a faster, more cost-efficient service. ThyssenKrupp Aerospace, a Division of ThyssenKrupp Materials CA Ltd, announced today that it has renewed and expanded a six-year contract with Bombardier Aerospace as the service provider for cut-to-size aluminum plate, sheet and extrusions and related supply chain services. Work will be performed at the existing ThyssenKrupp Aerospace facility in Baie D’Urfé Québec, Canada.

ThyssenKrupp Aerospace continues to expand its business. In Tunisia, the German technology group ThyssenKrupp’s aerospace materials and services provider recently opened its first facility on the African continent.

The newly constructed site at Aerospace Park Mghira commenced business in April. This includes cutting block drafts from aircraft grade aluminum plates, the exclusive distribution of metal plate and sheet as well as aluminum profiles. Referring to the particular “first” of a site on African soil, ThyssenKrupp Aerospace President Jürgen Funke said: “We’re in the business of supporting our customers as best possible. When that means going where the customers go or already are, then that’s what we do. So in this case it was only a matter of time until we would join our regional customers here.”

With an expected full number of 12 employees, the facility will supply sheet metal, plate metal and aluminum profile to the regional aerospace industry, specifically to customers Aérolia Tunesia, Figeac Aero and Mecahers.

Aerospace materials and logistics provider ThyssenKrupp Aerospace has moved to a new building at Vitrolles near Marseille, mainly dedicated to supporting a major customer in the area. During the official inauguration event on June 11nd, ThyssenKrupp Aerospace President Jürgen Funke pointed out: “This was a logical step for us. In order to best fulfil our contract and generate added value for our customer we decided to set up this new location.”

The new site also hosts the offices of ThyssenKrupp Materials France’s sales agency, which moved in from its previous rooms in downtown Marseille. Parent company ThyssenKrupp Materials International’s CEO Joachim Limberg commented: “For ThyssenKrupp, expanding the materials and services business for the aerospace industry is a project of vast strategic significance. Our cooperation with a well-known customer represents a major and enduring step as an internationally recognized materials services provider.”

On a total of 3.400 square meters, ThyssenKrupp Aerospace will stock various materials like aluminum, titanium, copper, steel etc in bars, plates, sheets, rounds and more. The Vitrolles facility will manage over 20.000 working orders per year, about half of which will be prefabricated in house prior to shipment. ThyssenKrupp Aerospace plans to build a local team of 14 members, some coming in from other plants as well as new employees hired in the Marseille area.
