]]>WASHINGTON, July 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — KPMG International and Microsoft today announced two important strategic initiatives that will expand the scope of their global alliance: providing clients with a portfolio of digital solutions1, and enabling KPMG’s smart audit platform, KPMG Clara — both built on KPMG business experience and the Microsoft intelligent cloud.
The two organizations are establishing a global Digital Solution Hub, which will leverage Microsoft Azure intelligent cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) technology with KPMG business experience to help companies transform all areas of their businesses — including finance, operations and the customer experience.
KPMG2 and Microsoft also announced plans to place the new KPMG smart audit platform, known as KPMG Clara, on Microsoft Azure, which will make KPMG the first of the Big Four professional services firms to enable its member firms to conduct external financial statement audits utilizing Azure, a comprehensive, cloud-based platform. Deployment across the KPMG network will depend on, among other things, applicable country regulations and any applicable engagement terms with companies audited by KPMG member firms. KPMG currently has 73,000 audit professionals worldwide and provides audit services for 23 percent of global Fortune 500 companies.
Of KPMG’s commitment to deliver KPMG Clara through Microsoft Azure, KPMG Global Chairman John Veihmeyer said: “As businesses become increasingly digitized and face continued disruption, audits need to continue to evolve with those changes and KPMG is committed to leading digital transformation in the professional services sector. Placing our smart audit platform on the Microsoft Azure cloud and leveraging other Microsoft technologies will accelerate and expand digital capabilities to further enhance quality, consistency and efficiency.”
Regarding the importance of the Digital Solution Hub to KPMG member firm non-audit clients around the world, Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, said: “As every industry and every organization becomes digitized, leaders are looking for the right technologies and partners to accelerate their transformation. Working with firms like KPMG, we aim to help customers harness the intelligent cloud and build AI capability to drive business outcomes and unlock new opportunities.”
Veihmeyer remarked: “The CEOs I talk to are looking for new types of digital solutions that combine the best technology with deep sector and business expertise. Creating a global Digital Solution Hub demonstrates our joint commitment to develop and deliver world-class, technology-led solutions that harness our combined business and technology expertise to transform their business. The technology solutions we develop will help clients optimize their operations, to build more efficient and sustainable digitally driven business to compete in an ever-changing world.”
KPMG Clara and the importance of the audit’s evolution
KPMG Clara builds on KPMG’s deep global audit experience combined with the advanced security features and industry-leading compliance capability of Microsoft Azure to enhance audit quality and provide deeper insights into the results of audits, potentially highlighting specific issues and audit risks. The KPMG Clara platform’s standardized application programming interface (API) integration framework will support seamless integration with other cloud, data and analytics technologies.
“The future of audit for the digital, always-on age lies in providing services that one day likely will include real-time audits and continuous audit risk analyses. KPMG and Microsoft are working hard to move audit to the next level of digital transformation, leveraging Microsoft’s Azure cloud technology,” said Bill O’Mara, KPMG Global Head of Audit. “KPMG Clara on Azure will be a significant step toward the audit of the future.”
By applying Microsoft intelligent cloud capabilities such as Azure Machine Learning and Power BI (Business Intelligence) analytics to the full breadth of a client’s data, KPMG Clara can help bring more automation to the audit, reducing the burden on clients around data preparation and delivery. KPMG is committed to protecting client data, and this will only intensify with moving into cloud technology.
Digital Solution Hub marks important step in the global alliance
The Digital Solution Hub marks the most significant step forward for the KPMG and Microsoft strategic alliance formed in early 2015. The Digital Solution Hub will manage ideation, architecture and development of ready-made, Microsoft Cloud-based solutions, empowering the C-suite to drive digital transformation in strategic areas of their business.
The Hub will soon launch a portfolio of CFO solutions, and Procurement 365 Digital, a data and analytics-driven solution that aims to set a new standard for digital strategic procurement.
New solutions from the Hub intend to center on artificial intelligence, machine learning and analytics to help non-audit clients’ businesses improve performance, profitability and growth in the disruptive global economy. Operating as a geographically distributed facility, the Digital Solution Hub will have locations in the Seattle area, at the KPMG Lighthouse — Center of Excellence for Data & Analytics location in Berlin, and other yet-to-be-named satellite locations around the world.
The Hub will be staffed by data scientists, developers, analysts, designers and other specialists from both organizations. KPMG and Microsoft plan to begin operations by the fourth quarter of 2017. Further details about the Digital Solution Hub’s portfolio and client engagement opportunities will be shared at the Microsoft Envision conference in Orlando, Fla., in September.
In addition to the two initiatives announced today which build on the longstanding alliance between KPMG and Microsoft, KPMG recently received the following Microsoft awards:
In early June, Microsoft announced that KPMG was a finalist for their annual Public Sector: Health partner of the year award.
KPMG was among the best in cloud experiences in Microsoft Dynamics in the Horses for Sources (HfS) Blueprint Report: Microsoft Dynamics Services 2017 published on June 14th.
At their July 10th partner recognition reception, Microsoft will name KPMG as their Worldwide Consulting & SI Digital Transformation in Action partner.

Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, 20 January 2016 – Rapid advances underway across a range of technologies are changing how people live, work and interact with each other, with both positive and negative impact. In a panel at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2016 on the transformations driven by this Fourth Industrial Revolution, government, business and technology leaders stressed the importance of ensuring that dividends are enhanced and divides are bridged.
“Think about the changes in the world happening in terms of hope or fear,” advised Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Board of Facebook in the US. “The question that Davos is trying to answer this year is how hopeful or how fearful the world should be. The challenge needs to be to have the triumph of hope over fear.”
Technology can be a great equalizer, noted Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda. Even though much of Africa is only starting to reap the benefits of the computer revolution, it is important for the continent to put one foot ahead in this new technological age. “Technology has a huge multiplier effect on finding solutions to many problems by having even the poorest people have access to the technologies that can improve their lives,” he said. But there will be winners and losers in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, he acknowledged. “Our job is to make sure that we narrow the gap and that there are fewer losers and more winners.”
Over 2,500 leaders from business, government, international organizations, civil society, academia, media and the arts are participating in the 46th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, on 20-23 January. Under the theme, “Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, the programme comprises over 300 sessions, of which over 100 sessions will be webcast live.
As the Fourth Industrial Revolution gains pace, inclusion is a major concern, argued Meeting Co-Chair Satya Nadella, Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft Corporation, USA. “Is there a digital dividend or a digital divide? That is the right debate to have. The emphasis should be on skills. Rather than worry about jobs being lost, we as a society will have to spend the money to educate people so they can find new jobs.” The key: improve productivity to drive growth and achieve a surplus. “The question is how the dividend is going to get spread,” Nadella asked. “Is it going to spread out geographically, to all sectors of the economy, to help people of different economic strata?”
“Connectivity and data access are too important to keep to the world’s rich,” Sandberg agreed. Taking technology to rural areas will have enormous benefits, stressed Ananda Mahindra, Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra, India. “If we can make our villages smart, there will be huge productivity gains.” But technology such as mobile phones and artificial intelligence can make people feel disengaged and remote, he said. “There has to be empathy. But how do we programme artificial empathy?”
Technology will drive improvements in governance, said Zachary Bookman, Chief Executive Officer of OpenGov, USA. “One of the things that strikes me about the state of governance in the world is how many broken governments there are,” he observed. With technological advances, “governments will connect much more closely with citizens. They should reflect the citizenry. People should know where tax revenues go, what they are getting for their tax dollars. As digitization of government takes place and new tools reach government, there will be a new governing landscape – much more public, collaborative, integrative and productive.”
The Co-Chairs of the Annual Meeting 2016 are: Mary Barra, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, General Motors, USA; Sharan Burrow, General Secretary, International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Brussels; Satya Nadella, Chief Executive Officer, Microsoft Corporation, USA; Hiroaki Nakanishi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Hitachi, Japan; Tidjane Thiam, Chief Executive Officer, Credit Suisse, Switzerland; and Amira Yahyaoui, Founder and Chair, Al Bawsala, Tunisia.

]]>SAN FRANCISCO, April 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday announced new features in Windows 10 and unveiled a set of software development kits (SDKs) to help developers bring their code for the Web, .NET, Win32, Android and iOS to Windows 10. At the company’s annual Build developer conference, Microsoft also announced new Microsoft Azure data services for intelligent applications; Visual Studio and .NET tools and runtimes for Windows, Mac and Linux; and APIs that enable developers to build rich apps with Office 365.
“Microsoft has bold ambitions for platforms that empower developers across Windows, Azure and Office,” said Satya Nadella , CEO of Microsoft. “Together, we will create more personal and more intelligent experiences that empower billions of people to achieve more.”
Windows 10 offers unique scale and opens up new platform opportunities for developers
Microsoft showcased several new features in Windows 10, from new capabilities to scale applications across devices to new ways for developers to build code for Windows 10. Capturing the breadth of opportunity, the company declared its ambition to have 1 billion active Windows 10 devices by FY18.
The company further detailed ways in which developers can create a single app that scales across all Windows 10 devices, automatically adapting to different screen sizes. With the Universal Windows Platform, developers can tailor their apps to the unique capabilities of each device, integrate Cortana and Xbox Live into their apps, offer trusted commerce, create holograms, and publish their apps into the Windows Store. Also as part of the Universal Windows Platform, the company shared how apps can scale using Continuum for phones, enabling people to use their phones like PCs for productivity or entertainment. 1
The Windows Store will also offer a single unified experience for Windows 10 customers across devices and make finding great content easier than ever — across apps, games, music, video and other content. 2 Transactions will take advantage of a range of popular payment options, including the largest carrier billing footprint of any ecosystem supporting 90 mobile operators. USA Today, WeChat, Disney and Netflix Inc. are a few of the partners referenced in the keynote already building apps for the Windows Store.
Microsoft welcomed all developers to the Universal Windows Platform by announcing four new software development toolkits that will make it easy to bring their code for the Web, .NET, Win32, iOS and Android to the Windows Store with minimal code modifications. This will enable developers to start with an existing code base such as Android or iOS, integrate with the Universal Windows Platform capabilities, and then distribute their new application through the Windows Store.
New features for Microsoft Edge, the new browser for Windows 10, were also unveiled, offering developers better discoverability of their apps and future extensibility with JavaScript and HTML.
Highlighting the opportunity with Windows 10, Microsoft shared the progress it has made in fewer than 100 days since unveiling Microsoft HoloLens — the world’s first untethered holographic computer powered by Windows 10 — and showcased how customers like Trimble, Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic are using this innovative new technology.

Azure and Visual Studio help developers build intelligent apps on multiple platforms and devices
Microsoft previewed Azure SQL Database elastic database, which allow ISVs and software-as-a-service developers to pool capacity across thousands of databases, enabling them to benefit from efficient resource consumption and the best price and performance in the public cloud. To help developers manage massive datasets, Microsoft introduced Azure SQL Data Warehouse, the industry’s first enterprise-class cloud data warehouse as a service that can grow, shrink and pause in seconds. Microsoft also announced Azure Data Lake, an open and massively scalable data repository that supports petabyte-size files and provides high-speed integration with Azure HDInsight, Azure Machine Learning, Cloudera and Hortonworks to quickly derive insights from vast amounts of data.
To help every developer be more productive, Microsoft announced new best-in-class tools and runtimes for multiple platforms and devices. In preview on Windows, Mac and Linux, Visual Studio Code is a free code-focused editor optimized for Web and cloud applications. Furthering its work with open source and .NET communities, Microsoft released a preview of the .NET Core for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Microsoft also released Visual Studio 2015 Release Candidate, which makes it easier for developers to build and deploy applications to Windows, Linux, iOS and Android platforms.
Office gives developers opportunities to reach more users and build intelligent solutions
Microsoft introduced more ways for developers to reach 1.2 billion Office users, including the new Office Graph API, expanded add-in capabilities for the iPad and Outlook, and unified APIs. The Office Graph API allows customers and developers to access, add to and build with the Office Graph, an intelligent store of Office 365 user, service and relationship data. Unified APIs across OneNote, Outlook and OneDrive, combined with the Office Graph, will enable developers to help consumers and organizations take advantage of some of their most valuable and useful data.
