Company Awarded Over $12 Million in New Business in Fiscal Q4

MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 16, 2018/PRNewswire/ — Aviat Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVNW), the leading expert in microwave networking solutions, today announced new orders in the Company’s fiscal 2018 fourth quarter worth approximately $12.0 million from a number of accounts in the Asia Pacific region.

Some of the key highlights include:

  • $6.5 million in new business with a leading mobile operator. As a leader in the Asia Pacific region, with aggressive plans to begin 5G rollouts in 2019, this operator is deploying the CTR microwave routing platform, ODU 600 microwave radios, ProVision network management, and turnkey services. These deployments for Aviat are a result of competitive takeaways within the account.
  • Business expansion with a large mobile operator for a nationwide backbone. This operator is deploying the WTM 4000 platform for high-capacity backbone across the operator’s footprint of remote sites and challenging terrain. These deployments, a large portion of which are a displacement of competitive products, include microwave radios, ProVision Plus automation platform and a full range of turnkey services.
  • New all-outdoor trunking project with a multi-national Tier 1 operator. This mobile operator will implement an extensive network upgrade, consisting of numerous radio links over long stretches of ocean. This customer is deploying Aviat’s WTM 4000 to lower its overall CAPEX and operating expenses, while also ensuring high availability and ultra-high bandwidth connectivity for mobile backhaul and fixed internet connectivity. In addition, Aviat’s ‘New Trunking’ solution will be deployed, supporting long-distance, multi-Gigabit transport in a compact, cost-effective all-outdoor design.
  • Fast growing Internet Service Provider selected Aviat as its new partner. A technology, media, and telecommunications operator is now undertaking an expansion and upgrade of its network capacity to meet surging demand for enterprise broadband services and will soon extend new services to residential customers. This operator has selected Aviat’s dual-channel, ultra-high capacity WTM 4200 to support critical multi-gigabit backbone connectivity, as an alternative to the high costs of leasing or building fiber networks.

“These new wins are a testament to the strength of our new products, our long-standing services presence in the Asia Pacific region, and the positive TCO impact we deliver to our customers,” states Michael Pangia, president, and CEO, Aviat Networks. “In addition, these wins clearly demonstrate the diversity and associated stability of our business which is a key strength, not only throughout Asia but across the globe.”

New Delhi, August 08, 2018: Togofogo, India’s most trusted marketplace for buying and selling of re-commerce products in the Mobiles category today adds another product category on its platform- Refurbished Laptops. With the new product category, the company aims to capture 8-10% share in the market.

Having successfully sold 3,50,000 units of refurbished mobile phones in the Indian market, the company now targets the second largest category in refurbished market, after mobiles. The laptops being sold on Togofogo include Quality Check, Certification, Extended Warranty, and Repair Services, maintaining the uniqueness of the platform.

With the integration of the array of services provided by Togofogo, the listed refurbished laptops are almost like new ones but with a price difference that makes all the differences. To begin with, Togofogo would be selling laptops of top-brands on its website.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Soumitra Gupta, CEO, Togofogo, says, “E-Commerce industry in India is witnessing a promising customer-demand not just for refurbished smartphones but across categories with a major chunk contributed by Laptops.  Having created a niche in the market of refurbished mobile phones with 35% share in the online market, we now aim to significantly capture the market for refurbished laptops in India. By the next quarter we also plan to enable our customers to directly sell their old laptops on Togofogo”

Togofogo is a one-stop-shop for its customers providing multiple services. It has recently integrated a new service on its platform – “Sell your Phone” – where customers can directly sell their old phones for the best possible price. • For the first time in its 5 year retail banking survey history, technology and digital are bigger trends than regulation.
  • Report says that for 52% of survey respondents, product agility is now their top strategic priority
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) becoming a key part of the new technology mix, but uncertainty remains over the user experience
  • 71% of respondents are focusing their digital investment on cyber security, up from only 34% last year

London, UK –May 21, 2018  –  Retail bank executives are reviewing their digital strategies, with 61% developing niche propositions and others, to varying degrees, opening up and giving access to new third parties.  Banks are now more concerned with technology-driven trends than they are by regulation according to an in-depth study released today by Temenos, a banking software company.  Although banks are concerned about losing business to new payment players, including the threat posed by Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon (collectively known as GAFA), they already have the trust, the data and the connections that the fintech newcomers need.

The report explores one central theme: ‘’ Whose customer are you? The reality of digital banking.” The report, the fifth in a series conducted for Temenos by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), offers a global investigation into the strategic concerns of retail banking executives. It highlights that, as the banking world moves towards the implementation of open banking, all stakeholders need to co-operate to deliver the user experience customers want while keeping their money and data safe.

David Arnott, Chief Executive Officer at Temenos, stated: “Banking has reached a watershed moment with changing customer behaviours, disruptive new technologies and a dramatic increase in competitors from within and outside of banking. The most enlightened banks understand that to become truly digital they need to update their systems front-to-back. This will fulfil their business need for product agility; they can offer the right products, over the right channel, and at the right time. Technology, as the report notes, is now the enabler, which will empower banks to build digital ecosystems and capitalize on the open banking opportunity. IT renovation is key to banks’ strategy and, indeed, their very existence; as they will need to redefine their business models in the new API economy.”

Renee Friedman, the editor of the report from the Economist Intelligence Unit, added: “Although the banks may benefit from the fintechs’ missteps, they must remember that the trust customers have in their bank will mean little if it cannot provide the services that accommodate their lifestyle needs.”

About the survey
The Economist Intelligence Unit surveyed 400 global banking executives about the challenges retail banks expect to face between now and 2020, and the strategies they are deploying in response. 51% of respondents were atC-Suite level and 10% were board members.  Respondents came from Europe (25%), Asia-Pacific (25%), North America (18%), Latin America (16%) and Africa and the Middle East (16%).

In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 senior executives from banks, fintech companies and security advisers.

The key findings show:

  • Changing client demand, the rise of the smartphone and the introduction of new digital technologies such as AI and machine learning has replaced post-financial crisis regulation as the drivers of strategic thinking at banks around the world.
  • The impact of open banking and tighter security and data rules is not clear.  While 71% are focusing their digital investment on cyber security, only 17% are thinking about the risks from third-party relationships as a result of open banking.
  • Banks can take the fintechs on by building all-encompassing platforms that are seamless with other products and services. Digital investments are being directed to digital channel delivery capabilities such as mobile (cited by 54% of respondents), cloud-based technologies (48%), and in modernising front- and back-end systems (37%).
  • AI is becoming a key part of the new technology mix, but just over 20% of respondents think it will improve the user experience
  • Over 61% of respondents still see a place for the traditional transaction-based branch model, nearly twice as many as those who think it will be dead by 2020.

Saarwellingen, Germany.

The use of durable water repelling coatings is subject to constant change. Whereas at the introduction of textile equipment fluorine-free hydrophobics were used for impregnating textiles, predominantly fluorocarbon products were used in the second half of the 20th century. Right up to 2012, their high efficiency and low-cost application served as an argument to justify the ecological risks; and these are really huge: long-chain C8 fluorocarbons (PFCs) break down to PFOS and PFOA – two emissions proven to be “bioaccumulative”, “persistent” and “carcinogenic”. Indeed today we can detect increased values of these substances in watercourses and even in the breast milk of US mothers. The legal restrictions on C8 technology resulted in a move to shorter C6 fluorocarbons. Although their ecological balance on emissions (e.g. PFHxA) is slightly enhanced – which means a decrease in persistence, no bio-accumulation and no proof of carcinogens – they cannot be seen as a sustained solution for decontaminating the textile industry. Since 2012 Greenpeace has been pleading for change to fluorine-free products in the outdoor sector with their campaign “Detox”. Due to this, manufacturers have had to meet huge challenges, as fluorine-free textile products are less effective and sensitive in application due to their increased surface tension, e.g. through a pre-contamination with residues (silicones or surfactants) resulting from previous treatments.

Intelligent Hybrids developed by Nano-Care Deutschland AG provide new hope for sustainability in the market for DWRs. In complete conformity with the Greenpeace campaign “Detox” and the ZDHC progamme these Intelligent Hybrids are composed of PFC-free chemicals. “The big advantage of hybrid technologies lies in their ability to combine positive features by eliminating the disadvantages as far as possible”, states Oliver Sonntag, CEO. ”Many fluorine-free products are highly restricted in their application and performance. Intelligent Hybrids allow us to achieve excellent results on a wide range of textile fibres including polyamide, polyester, viscose, cotton, silk, leather and wool as well as on their blends. Our formulations have been developed to meet the requirements of the outdoor sector (Spray test, Bundesmann).” The products show an outstanding resistance to washing cycles and to chemical cleaning. In addition the combination of different base technologies allows special features such as LAD (laundry-air-dry).

“Nature itself provided us with the idea of developing hybrids from silicon dioxide nano-technology, paraffins, waxes, resins and silicones: as in evolution, genetic diversity leads to superior ways of living.”

Besides water and dirt repellency, Intelligent Hybrids have further potential: They are able to be used as a booster for oil and alcohol repellency to minimize fluorine usage. Due to lack of alternatives, technical textiles used for work-wear, military, medicine and automotive still have to be treated with PFCs. “Intelligent Hybrids allow us to use short-chain C6 technology whilst achieving C8 performance . We are currently also working on products to improve C4 polymers – with the aim of being able to offer in future a “C0” in this sector. Until then our products will reduce to a minimum both the chain length and the quantity required. Especially in those areas where oil repellency is imperative, the restrictive regulation around C8 technology forces many industrial sectors to increase their C6 content. This is neither sustainable nor cost efficient – and it is exactly here that Intelligent Hybrids will constitute an advantage both for the environment and the cost issue “, says Oliver Sonntag, Nano-Care AG CEO.

One example is the Nanoflex F-Bond system, which was launched on February 7, 2018. This product is composed of a silica backbone, a modified C6 polymer, and process additives which give level 8 performance according to ISO 14419 on polyester and 7 on cotton with normal Foulard/padding commercial application and subsequent curing at temperatures over 150°. The product has been certified with the Eco Passport standard 100 by Oeko-Tex.

Intelligent Hybrids would seem to offer new hope for sustainability and “Detox“ in the textile market. Even without having yet achieved the ultimate aim “Oil repellency without fluorination“, this technical progress is really significant.

The company: Nano-Care Deutschland AG is a spin-off from the Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM) and was founded in 2000. This mid-size company with its headquarters in Saarwellingen and subsidiaries in the UK and Mexico has specialized form the outset in the production of ultra-thin coating technology for textiles, building construction and non-absorbing surfaces.

Digital technologies for fossil fuel operation and maintenance are big business today, but activity is shifting towards services for distributed renewables and the connected home

London and New York, 6 November 2017 – New energy innovations will be centered on digital technologies and the strategic use of data, according to new research published today. A shift is coming in the energy industry from a focus on hardware to the increased importance of software in order to make systems more efficient, resilient, and digital.

Digitalization of Energy Systems, a report by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), predicts significant shifts in the intelligence of digital technologies used in energy from today to 2025, and a big change in the sectors of the energy system that most benefit from these technologies.

Today, the biggest use of digital technologies like sensors, data collection and analytics in the energy sector is to improve the bottom line of fossil fuel generators. Revenue for digital services for fossil fuel operation and maintenance, or O&M, are estimated to be $24 billion in 2017 – some 44% of the total market size for digitalization measured by BNEF.

However, as natural gas and coal plants come offline, and those that remain become digitalized, the opportunities for new revenues from the fossil fuel sector will shrink. By 2025, digital technologies will be more intelligent and more capable, helping home owners that own rooftop solar, batteries or EVs (often termed ‘prosumers’), to become more autonomous and derive greater value from these assets. This could be through trading energy with neighbors or better management of peak power prices.

Claire Curry, head of emerging technology analysis at BNEF, said: “Home energy management technologies will see the most significant change in digital revenues, rising from $1 billion in 2017 to $11 billion in 2025. The largest driver for digital technology revenues in 2025 will be smart meters, growing 44% between now and 2025, to $26bn. This revenue increase matches the fall in digital revenues from fossil fuel O&M – 46% over that time period.”

Digital technologies like big data, analytics and machine learning, blockchain, distributed energy resource management, and cloud computing, can help overcome some of the key challenges in the energy sector –  most notably  intermittency, aging grids, balancing distribution-connected generation, managing consumer self-generation, and coping with increasing system complexity.

“Countries with high penetration of distributed renewables, good communications network infrastructure, and robust venture capital investment in digital technologies are likely to take rapid advantage of energy digitalization,” said Julia Attwood, associate on the emerging technology analysis team and lead author of the report.

“Italy, for instance, is one of the global leaders in small-scale PV, has almost 100% high speed network coverage, and supportive regulation for digital technologies,” Attwood added.

The U.S. will also do well, having long been a leader in digital technologies and early-stage fundraising. Australia, although ranking lower today, will move near the top of the group in 2025 due to high forecast levels of decentralized energy production. In emerging markets, countries that have beneficial government policies, foster innovative start-ups and are rolling-out network infrastructure are likely to digitalize soonest – for example Chile, Indonesia and Nigeria.

The motivation for industry digitalization will be different for each player. Generators and ‘prosumers’ are motivated by cost reduction, additional revenue streams and new services. Utilities face pressure from customers, government policy and regulation to improve their businesses. They can use digitization to streamline operations and enhance customer services.

Michael Wilshire, head of strategy at Bloomberg New Energy Finance, commented: “The power sector has traditionally been served by large industrial companies selling primarily hardware, but innovation is increasingly centered on software and advanced technologies such as machine learning. Whether the winning solutions will come from industrials, start-ups, or technology companies remains to be seen.”

INDIA – May 26, 2017

Atos, a leader in digital transformation, and Dell EMC today announced they are joining forces to address the growing Internet of Things (IoT) and business analytics markets. This collaboration is based on best-in-class hardware and software from Dell EMC combined with the Atos Codex, a complete set of solutions and capabilities to design, build, run and secure smart data business services, data platforms and Internet of Things. The offering will initially focus on North America and Europe.

By 2020, nearly 40% of IoT-related revenue will come from services according to Markets and Markets. This number is expected to increase annually due to an increasing need for IT consulting and support. IoT professional services accounted for $57 billion in 2016 and are expected to reach $158 billion by 2021, a CAGR of over 22%.

The unprecedented growth in connected devices, the data generated and the applications generating value out of these connections will need a strong offering in end-to-end service management, considering the enormous size and complexities of the networks generated by the Internet of Things.

The Atos Codex IoT Services framework will contain a catalogue of services including management of devices, connectivity, data and storage, change and release control, incident management, service desk and support, and the operations to increase resilience against failures or disturbances. These services will be delivered with user-defined service levels, including the necessary security measures for access management and data encryption. The framework also defines an architecture blueprint, containing hardware and software solutions from Dell EMC as well as software solutions and integration services from Atos.

The collaboration is expected to cover two areas:

  • Joint development/design of the Service Delivery Framework, utilizing existing assets from both companies.
  • Joint market approach, building upon the strength of each company’s brand and capabilities to build and sell solutions driven by customer demand.

The first Atos Codex IoT Services framework capabilities are available now with additional services and products will be added based on market demand.

Jay Snyder, Senior Vice President, Global Alliances, Industries & Service Providers at Dell EMC: “We are proud to help Atos enhance their IoT service offering, which will leverage our comprehensive portfolio such as Dell Edge Gateways to securely transfer and analyze important data at the edge of the network and Dell EMC hyper-converged infrastructure and scale-out storage at the core.
