All the world’s a stage

The countdown to the 68th Berlinale has begun

Several weeks in advance of the 68th Berlinale, everything at Glashütte Original is already revolving around the world of film. Looking forward with pleasure to the start of the world’s largest public film festival, the Saxon manufactory has sent its exclusive timepieces on a trip to the most important film sets in the world. The photographic expedition, entitled “Movie Capitals of the World” ends right on time for the opening of the Berlin International Film Festival on February 15, 2018.

Here in the German capital, Glashütte Original will celebrate “Capital Moments” – and not only on the Red Carpet – with the premiere of an exclusive special edition. As Principal Partner of the Berlinale, the manufactory also offers the 50,000 Euro Glashütte Original – Documentary Award. Once again Berlin steps into the limelight as one of film’s capital cities, from February 15 – 25 at the International Film Festival – with great art, inspiring encounters and the electrifying flair of one of the most exciting metropolises in the world. Glashütte Original looks forward to innumerable “Capital Moments“ during the 68th Berlinale – and not only on the Red Carpet: A new limited edition which captures the inimitable style of the big city in a striking urban design will be the star of an exclusive launch during the Festival. And with that, the journey of some of its most famous timepieces, sent by the manufactory to significant locations in the history of film, will come to an
end. Since the 27th of December these models have played the lead role in the “Movie Capitals of the World“ campaign. Currently, watch and film fans can follow the results of this action on Glashütte Original’s social media channels.

The Partnership: Here the art of filmmaking meets the art of engineering The manufactory has supported the Berlinale since 2011. Appearing for the second time in its role as Principal Partner, the Saxon manufactory will once again offer the 50,000 Euro Glashütte Original – Documentary Award. The prize will be presented during the official Awards Ceremony in the Berlinale Palast on February 24 by a three-member jury of renowned film industry figures. In Glashütte and Berlin there’s a feverish excitement in the air as filmmakers and fans await the names of the jury members and the titles of the 18 current documentary entries chosen as
nominees for the Award from the sections Competition, Forum, Panorama, Generation, Berlinale Special, Perspektive Deutsches Kino and the special series, Culinary Cinema.

Along with the 50,000 Euros in prize money, Glashütte Original will also deliver the Documentary Award trophy: a 20-centimetre-high statuette in brass, stainless steel and acrylic, made with exquisite craftsmanship in the Saxon manufactory. In 2018 Glashütte Original returns as the host of the “Golden Bear Lounge by Glashütte Original”. On the first floor of the Hotel Grand Hyatt Berlin and directly opposite the Red Carpet, actors, directors, producers and journalists from all over the world will find a quiet retreat for industry talks, interviews and receptions. “Berlin is a world stage, all the more so during the ten days of the Berlinale.“, said Thomas Meier, CEO, Glashütte Original. ”To present our precise German art of engineering on this generous stage, to show just how the sense of life in a big city today is reflected in our watches – that’s what makes our partnership with the Festival so valuable.”

In anticipation for the 68th Berlinale: “Movie Capitals of the World” In the weeks before the opening of the 68th Berlinale, 11 world film cities will host “Movie Capitals of the World“: From New York to Tokyo and on to Moscow, Venice and Los Angeles, watches from Glashütte Original will step into leading roles on famous film sets and put fans of the brand into the mood for the Berlinale. In New York, for example, the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date will evoke, with stylish flair, the iconic “Taxi Driver“, while in Tokyo, the city of “Godzilla” and “Lost in Translation“, the Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar will make, as always, an elegant
appearance. Watch and film fans can follow the journey on the manufactory’s social media channels and on the dedicated microsite, http://berlinale.glashuette-original.com.

Grande Seconde Deadbeat

Deadbeats seconds is an extremely rare complication first introduced in the Age of Enlightenment, the very era when Pierre Jaquet-Droz was travelling the length and breadth of Europe to present his timepieces to royal courts across the continent. This technique means that the seconds hand no longer moves in a smooth sweep, but instead in one-second jumps, thus enabling extremely precise measurements. This horological miniature marvel is now revived by Jaquet Droz, which reinvents its Grande Seconde for this purpose. The historically off-centred seconds hand now takes its place at the centre of the dial, while the space traditionally reserved for it is occupied by the retrograde date display. A brand-new calibre has been created to power this association of deadbeat seconds, date and hour/minute module. This ingenious mechanism makes ample use of innovative technologies, such as a silicon balance-spring or a cam with 10 teeth instead of 30, to ensure that the deadbeat seconds jump is a visual show in which prodigious technical sophistication is matched by aesthetic refinement. 88-piece limited edition.

By creating one-off pieces or very limited series, Kerbedanz takes watchmaking in unexplored directions that embrace all manner of symbols. A simple press on the 10 o’clock pusher switches it between chronograph and Worldtimer functions, a change clearly visible on the dial by means of the mode-selection indicator at 2 o’clock. i_3239_1L’DUCHEN

The primordial ocean is a mythical element in which the Earth and space were conceived. The dials of the Perseides timepieces by L’Duchen, fashioned in astral blue, white or black mother-of-pearl, reflect this mysterious phenomenon of pure creation. i_3200_1ARTYA

Son of Sound Skulls & Bones

As always, the independent ArtyA brand never does things in half measures. Having popularised the skull in the watchmaking world, it now delivers an extreme interpretation of this motif with its Skulls & Bones model. The entirely hand-sculpted skulls stud the entire watch from dial through case to bracelet. Designer Yvan Arpa gives new meaning to this symbol by replacing it within an artistic dimension. A first skull appears in the centre of the dial, with six other hand-sculpted skulls performing a macabre dance around it. Carved into the steel Bezel, a serie of bones, crosses, totems, guitars and pistols echo the skulls on the bezel, accentuating the three-dimensional effect. The massive, deliberately provocative bracelet shatters any conventions and takes the Skulls & Bones into an unprecedented creative dimension, since there can on longer be any talk of a watch and its bracelet. The model IS its bracelet and the bracelet IS the model.

Sulayem says new liaison offices will attract more competitors, increase event’s global viewing audience

Mohammed Ben Sulayem
Mohammed Ben Sulayem: “We’re committed to the continued development of the Desert Challenge.”

Dubai, UAE, 05January, 2015: The opening of four new overseas liaison offices for the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge POWERED BY Nissan is expected to accelerate the growth of the event now counting down to its 25th anniversary this year.

Covering the UK and Ireland, Holland and Belgium, Russia, Ukraine and the former CIS Nations, and South Africa, the four new representative offices have been given the key responsibility to boost competitor numbers from those countries.

The Automobile and Touring Club for the UAE, the rally organisers, say the appointments will also help to grow the event’s global TV audience, which exceeded 64 million viewers for the 24th edition last April of the world’s ultimate desert rally.

“We’re committed to the continued development of the Desert Challenge and have taken steps to make it a bigger and better event as we prepare for its 25th anniversary,” said ATCUE President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, founder of the rally and FIA Vice President.

“We have chosen people who have strong connections with cross country rally teams and competitors in their respective regions to operate the four new liaison offices.

“We’re confident they will help us attract more experienced drivers and riders into the Desert Challenge, and that this will increase media interest in the event in those countries, resulting in more growth of our global audience.”

The 25th Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, taking place from 27 March to 2 April 2015, is part of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies for cars and the FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship for bikes.

The new liaison office for Russia, Ukraine and the former CIS Nations will be operated by the UAE-based VVI Rally Team, whose appearance last April underlined the event’s ability to unite countries divided by reasons outside sport.

With the Crimean crisis grabbing world attention, VVI went into action in Abu Dhabi with a Ukrainian general manager, Vadim Pritulyak, overseeing five Russian drivers and riders and a team of mechanics from Kiev, the flags of the two countries being proudly flown together.

Sussex- based rally bike preparation and assistance specialist Desert Rose Racing, run by Dakar Rally veteran Patsy Quick, have been appointed to run the UK and Ireland liaison office.

Quick has a permanent place in cross country rallying history. In 1999 she became the first British woman to successfully complete the Optic 2000 Rallye Tunisie, and over the next two years won the British Women’s Enduro Championship twice, as well as the European Women’s Enduro title.

Her 2003 Dakar Rally debut almost ended in tragedy, when she crashed heavily, was temporarily blinded and unable to walk. Luckily spotted by a media helicopter she was taken to a makeshift hospital, then flown to Cairo where she underwent life-saving surgery to remove her spleen. Despite her ‘near death’ experience she was back in action in the event 12 months later.

Vorden-based HT Rally Raid, managed by another Dakar bikes veteran, Henk Hellegers, has been appointed to run the Desert Challenge liaison office for Holland and Belgium.

The new South African liaison office inJohannesburg is run by Daryll Curtis, his country’s ten-times offroad bikes champion and six-times enduro champion.

In another new Desert Challenge appointment, Hofheim-based Tony Schattat Rallye Navigation Solutions take over liaison responsibilities for Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.

Other existing liaison offices cover Sweden, Finland and Denmark, France Luxembourg and Switzerland, as well as Italy, Slovenia and Slovakia.

Pioneering edition of the Middle East Car of the Year Awards to showcase all nominated cars in accompanying two-day exhibition

November 10, 2014

All eyes are set on the inaugural edition of the Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) Award, the most coveted award for the regional automotive industry. Senior management executives from the entire industry have confirmed their attendance and are eagerly waiting in anticipation for the final results to be announced in a glittering gala awards night on November 20, 2014 at the Meydan Beach Club, JBR, Dubai.

“Middle East Car of the Year is a key platform for automotive brands in this region and we look forward to finding out how Jaguar Land Rover and its competitors have made an impact in this region,” said Bruce Robertson, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover MENA. “We are very pleased to have four of our vehicles nominated for the award and wish everyone the best of luck.”

“We are extremely honoured to be recognized by Middle East Car of the Year Award, which is one of the most reputed automotive awards in the industry,” said Samir Cherfan, Managing Director, Nissan Middle East. “Being nominated shows our commitment to the region to fulfill consumer demands. Nissan is committed to delivering innovation and excitement and winning an award at MECOTY will be recognition and a testament to that.”

The nominees underwent a stringent selection process that lasted almost seven months by a select panel of judges, who are handpicked to represent their respective countries, this makes MECOTY the only independent recognition for car manufacturers which acknowledges the fact that the cars they are selling in the region are in line with consumer needs.

“’We believe McLaren Automotive is evolving to be seen as a leading global luxury supercar brand and we recognise the huge importance the Middle East has on shaping such an image and will continue to have on our success against our competitors,” said Ian Gorsuch, Regional Director for Middle East & Africa. “We understand the regional market and we listen to what our customers want, this is what has led to incredible demand for our already award winning supercars and prestigious award nominations such as this.”

“We are pleased to have models from both our BMW and MINI brands nominated for this year’s Middle East Car of the Year Awards. The number of nominations for BMW Group confirms that we offer the right products to the discerning customers of this region. The Middle East Car of the Year Award celebration will be an exciting evening and BMW Group looks forward to being part of it,” said Johannes Seibert, Managing Director, BMW Group, Middle East.

MECOTY has empowered consumers by letting them vote for their favourite car through a custom Facebook app, which after receiving an overwhelming public response, took its last votes in yesterday. Five lucky winners will be given an opportunity of a life time to attend this exclusive industry-invite only event and watch the action as it unfolds.

“With the launch of this app, we have given the power to the people to vote for their favourite car and demonstrate their brand loyalty. It was purely a social media driven campaign and all manufacturers were given an equal opportunity window of three weeks to get their fans and followers to vote for their brand and make it win the prestigious Consumer Car of the Year title. The results will be a definitive measure of how connected the manufacturers truly are with their followers and a true testament of their public relations and marketing team’s engagement strategies,” said Mohammad Ali Sajjad, Advisor, MECOTY 2014.

“We are proud to have our new products nominated for the first Middle East Car of the Year Award. The fact that these models have been shortlisted is a testament to General Motors’ unwavering commitment to the highest standards of automotive excellence by delivering an enhanced driving experience and performance that exceeds expectations. We are eagerly looking forward to the 2014 MECOTY awards ceremony. Winning – and receiving industry-wide recognition on a regional level – would be a true honor,” said Maurice Williams, President and Managing Director of GM Middle East Operations.

Another exciting thing to look forward to in the event is the accompanying nominated cars display, which eliminates the need to go to various showrooms and waste time, energy, money and resources.

“If you are in the market for a new vehicle and can’t decide which car to invest on, just visit the nominated cars display of MECOTY 2014, see all the best cars of the year on one platform, meet the showroom representatives then and there and make the decision on which car to buy on the spot! Our aim is to bring the car manufacturers closer to their customers and the display is the perfect platform to execute this vision,” said Saeed Al Marzouqi, CEO & Chairman, Custom Events, Dubai.

Sponsors and partners of the event include: Platinum Sponsors, Dubai Properties Group, Official Venue, Meydan Beach Club and Support Sponsor, Carmudi.ae.
“Carmudi.ae is pleased to partner with such an important event in the region’s automotive industry and take part in showcasing the top brands and models as picked by both experts and the public. Just like MECOTY, we strive to provide our customers with the best experience in the marketplace.” Kerem Kuyucu, Managing Director of Carmudi Middle East
Prominent brands to be placed on display include Audi, Bentley, BMW, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Ford, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar, Lexus, Land Rover, KIA, Maserati, McLaren, MINI, Mercedes, Nissan, Opel, Rolls Royce, Toyota & Volkswagen.

i_3002_15GIRARD-PERREGAUX | Constant Escapement L.M.
Girard-Perregaux introduces an authentic technical revolution in its Haute Horlogerie collection: a constant escapement. Thanks to this innovation protected by three patents, the escapement delivers constant energy to the regulator, whatever the energy left in the barrel, in order to ensure the perfect regularity – and thus optimal precision – of the watch. To address the challenge of constant force that has preoccupied horologists down through the ages, the escapement has been fitted with an intermediary device fitted with a silicon buckled blade six times thinner than a human hair. The blade stores up the energy by being repeatedly flexed to a point as close as possible to its unstable state or buckling point, before releasing the exact same amount of energy each time and then tirelessly beginning all over again. Girard-Perregaux is presenting a pink gold version in 2014.
i_3013_110MAURICE LACROIX | Masterpiece Gravity
Buoyed up by a formidable capacity to view the world from a different perspective, Maurice Lacroix loves defying conventions. Its new Masterpeice Gravity is a perfect example of this attitude, since it is the first watch equipped with an assortment – balance roller, lever and escapement wheel – entirely made of silicon. Three times lighter than steel, this material is also more accurate, less energy-hungry and requires no lubricant. Like the oscillator, this fascinating innovation is clearly visible within a resolutely contemporary aesthetic composition accentuated by an off-centred hour and minute dial, as well as small seconds creating fascinating depth effects.
i_3004_16GUCCI | G-Timeless Slim Automatic
Completely updated, the G-Timeless Slim watches by Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry are back centre-stage with stylish new features. Proposed as three versions, they are now driven by a mechanical automatic movement for even more horological substance. A deliciously curved bezel surrounds the dial whose surface is decked out in Gucci’s iconic “diamante” pattern, in a larger design and now extending across the entire dial. A new minute circle accentuates the contour of the dial whose narrower hour-markers complete the look. Small seconds at 6 o’clock add to the dynamic character of this undeniably contemporary timepiece.
i_3007_18HYT | H1 Red2
The first ever wristwatch to show time using a liquid, the H1 is back with a new red fluid, the result of over a year’s R&D. Stored in a reservoir under the dome at 6 o’clock, this liquid advances through a capillary as the hours go by, then returns to its initial position in a retrograde movement after completing one circuit of the dial. Located in the upper part of the watch, a haute horlogerie mechanism commands these fascinating fluid mechanics. It propels a cam which pushes a piston to activate the bellows which alternately compress and expand the reservoirs, one of which contains the red, water-based liquid and the other a transparent, oil-based fluid. Limited series of 50
i_3010_19JULIEN COUDRAY 1518 | Oeuvre JC 1588 Sport
With this fourth collection, Manufacture Julien Coudray brings cars and watchmaking together in a most original way. The mechanical movement that beats inside this Oeuvre JC 1588 Sport reproduces on its oscillating weight the registration plate of its lucky owner’s car, making each timepiece truly one-of-a-kind. The harmoniously miniaturised number plate is crafted from solid 18K red gold and grand feu enamel. Fully hand-engraved and decorated, there are no limits to how it can be personalised, making it even more individual and exclusive. In an ultimate touch of refinement, the service indicator, shown in a window at 12 o’clock, reveals a drop of oil, reproduced in enamelled gold, after four years to remind the wearer that the watch must be serviced.
i_3005_17HALDIMANN | H3
The H3 brings with it a world-first, being the only wristwatch ever to possess a central flying tourbillon and a minute repeater. Truly a work of art, this mechanical sculpture chimes the magical melody of watchmaking’s two most highly prized complications. Carrying on a family tradition of innovation since 1642, master watchmaker Beat Haldimann has created this watch to keep horological complications firmly at the centre of our attention. Seemingly weightless, the elegant flying tourbillon appears to float in the centre of the dial, completing one revolution per minute. The gentle sound of the minute repeater underscores the poetry of this mechanical masterpiece, which has been entirely imagined and crafted in the Haldimann family workshops in the Alpine city of Thun, thus continuing the tradition of this remarkable dynasty of watchmakers
i_3022_112VICTORINOX SWISS ARMY | Dive Master 500
To mark the 25th anniversary of its watchmaking activities, Victorinox Swiss Army presents a limited, numbered series of its famous diver’s watch. For the very first time in brand history, this exclusive titanium model issued in a 500-piece limited edition houses a mechanical automatic chronograph movement. Built to resist and endure, this authentic diver’s instrument is water-resistant to 500 metres. To ensure impeccable visibility under water, it features generous luminescent indications not only on the hands and hour-markers, but also on the chronograph counter rings and in the 20-minute dial zone. The latter is echoed on the bezel bearing original marking, with a luminescent coating that seems no different from the others but actually turns blue in the dark.

i_2965_11ERNEST BOREL | Jules Borel Officially Certified Chronometer
This timepiece honours Jules Borel, the watchmaker who co-founded the company in 1856. Beneath an exterior that takes its style from the first wristwatches of the twentieth century beats an automatic movement whose timekeeping performance has been certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC). This carefully crafted gem of precision and reliability resides in an 18K pink gold case, bringing the refinement of noble materials to the delicacy and elegance of classical horology.
i_2999_14FRANC VILA | Cobra FV 18E « Manual Suspended Skeleton »
An immersion into the heart of an exceptional mechanism capable of making time stand still for just a moment. This model works true magic when the gaze alights on the skeleton-worked movement. Built and cased-up in total suspension, the calibre is stabilised by a clever system of springs. Appearing to be levitating in a dial-free structure, it draws observers into a fascinating mechanical exploration infused with the expertise of the finest master-watchmakers.
i_2990_12CLERC | Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer
A powerful and innovative design. Water resistance to 500 metres. Unfailing security in the depths. In other words, a formidable exploring machine that has sailed through the merciless tests performed by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute, the watch industry’s highest benchmark for precision and reliability. Its name is Hydroscaph H1, a high-tech luxury diver’s watch that is bound to delight deep-sea adventurers
i_2994_13DA VINDICE GENEVE | The Vindex Tourbillon
This new model from Da Vindice embodies an encounter between the tourbillon, a symbol of watchmaking excellence and traditions, and a resolutely 21st century design. Topped with the brand’s emblematic lily motif, the tourbillon sits majestically enthroned at 6 o’clock, while the dial reveals other beauties including generous Roman numerals standing out against an elegant guillocé background. The honeycomb motif adorning the sides of the tonneau-shaped case completes the total-black composition
i_3017_111TECHNOTIME | TT 738
This thriving small company produces modules, mechanical movements, tourbillons and balance-springs. Technotime has been enjoying renewed expansion since 2003, when the manufacturer decided to launch into making high-end mechanical movements. The flagship of the brand based in Les Brenets is the TT 738 movement, featuring a blend of design and performance and designed to adapt to brand’ need for differentiation. The available versions include a retrograde date module and/or power-reserve indicator. Equipped with Technotime balance-springs, it may, depending on clients’ wishes, be chronometer-certified by the COSC. This mechanical gem is also available in a hand-wound version, the TT 718.

i_3003_1GRAFF | Diamond GyroGraff
The perfect union of watchmaking and jewellery, this new timepiece from Graff shines the spotlight on a gyroscopic moon phase and a double-axis tourbillon, no less. The bezel is embellished with a mosaic of diamonds in a stunning and patented invisible setting, the work of the jeweller’s master craftsmen using a technique which took one year to perfect. This sculptural composition is formed by three rows of diamonds, with two triangular diamonds surrounding a hexagonal diamond. A triangular emerald lends the ultimate prestige to the guilloché dial, while another diamond adorns the crown at 2 o’clock. The Diamond GyroGraff is proposed in two iterations, in pink gold or in white gold, each a limited series of 20.
i_2996_1DUBEY & SCHALDENBRAND | coeur Blanc
First the heart, the beating force of life. Then white, symbol of delicacy and purity. Next the diamonds, because they are eternal. Individually baguette-cut, these precious stones combine to form a unique composition around the tourbillon, one of watchmaking’s most demanding complications. Their beauty is exalted by an invisible setting, a meticulous technique that requires rare skill. Thus the diamonds seem to float on the dial, as though nothing holds them there but their own power of seduction. They capture the light, illuminate the bezel with their sparkle, embrace the caseband, form one with the attachments, twinkle like stars on the crown, and come to a dazzling conclusion on the buckle of the strap.
i_3001_1FREDERIQUE CONSTANT | Classics Manufacture Worldtimer
The companion to long-distance travellers, the Classics Manufacture Worldtimer is driven by one of the most complex movements ever made by Frederique Constant: the FC-718 calibre. Yet the true genius of this watch is its simplicity of use, with all the functions commanded by the crown. The wearer can read, at a glance, time in 24 major world cities simultaneously around the dial. And so as never to lose track with home as he criss-crosses the globe, the 24-hour disc includes a day/night indicator. The date, meanwhile, can be read from the elegant counter that is swept by a hand at 6 o’clock.
i_2998_1EPOS | Epos 3419
The latest opus in the Oeuvre d’Art collection from Epos, this mechanical prodigy assembles different aspects of watchmaking in which the brand has excelled for close to a century. This ingenious and fascinating Reference 3419 can be carried as a pocket watch, worn as a wristwatch, or time can be completely concealed. As befits such an exclusive timepiece, it is proposed as a limited series of 222 pieces for each rendition of the dial – dark grey, blue or silver. Its heart beats to the semi-skeletonised Unitas 6498 calibre. The beauty of the movement finishes can be admired through the transparent case back, while a foretaste of these mechanical wonders is given on the dial side, through an opening which reveals the balance wheel at 8 o’clock.
i_3006_1HAMILTON | Khaki X-Wind Limited Edition
With its drift angle calculator built into a highly contemporary design, the new Khaki X-Wind Limited Edition powerfully reaffirms Hamilton’s ties with the world of aviation. Ready to brave any crosswinds it may meet, it should establish itself as a new must-have for seasoned or budding pilots. Its three-dimensional dial invites the gaze to engage in a fascinating exploration, wandering from the chronograph counters to the day/date apertures, and around the graduations on the rotating bezel. Directly inspired by aircraft instruments, this limited edition is powered by an extremely powerful Hamilton “engine” – a mechanical automatic movement with a 60-hour power reserve.
i_2991_1CLERC | Hydroscaph Limited Edition Central Chronograph
The most spectacular means of measuring success. Two central hands providing an original short-time display mode: such is the exclusive solution showcased by Clerc Genève in the Hydroscaph Limited Edition Central Chronograph. The first central sweep-seconds hand indicates the chronograph seconds, while its twin shows the minutes. This innovative display ensures exceptional readability for an instrument that tolerates no aesthetic or technical compromises. A prestigious timepiece designed for short-time measurements, the Hydroscaph Limited Edition Central Chronograph is the most spectacular means of celebrating success.
i_3019_1TF EST 1968 | T-Mechanic Open Side Cufflinks

TF Est. 1968 is defined by movement and a fun spirit. True to form, it puts a new twist on its famous watch-inspired cufflinks. This time all is revealed thanks to a tube in PPMA glass with sapphire treatment, made to withstand scratching and any other form of aggression. It reveals fragments of an authentic watch movement, vertically-mounted inside the tube. After all, vertical is in vogue! In an amazingly short space of time, TF Est. 1968 cufflinks, along with other accessories such as coordinating pens, key holders, even watches, have carved out a place at over 500 points of sale worldwide, not least at prestigious watch and jewellery retailers. The man behind this success story is Freddy Tschumi, a firm believer in Swiss craftsmanship. Of German quality, the clip closure is stable with a reassuringly frank click. The flowing, polished curves respect the most luxurious fabrics, whether a man’s shirt or a woman’s blouse. In steel, pink-gold plated and black PVD.
i_2993_1DA VINDICE GENEVE | The Tourbillon Barometer
Da Vindice introduces an authentic feat combining a barometer and a tourbillon within a watch mechanism. The hermetically sealed capsule with a partial vacuum is influenced by variations in atmospheric pressure. Its movements are mechanically expressed through indications appearing at 6 o’clock on the dial. The tourbillon topped with a fleur de lys, the brand emblem, spins airily at the centre of this fascinating model, while the small seconds appear around the rim of its carriage.
i_3023_1ZEITWINKEL | 188°
While this latest creation from Zeitwinkel is distinguished by its understated elegance and its design inspired by pocket watches, the 188° model also highlights the refinement and expertise inherent in Swiss styling and quality. The galvanic rhodium dial, the off-centred seconds at 6 o’clock and the date window at 3 o’clock also testify to this harmonious tradition. Lending a subtly innovative touch, the modestly sized 39 mm-diameter case houses an automatic Manufacture movement, the ZW0102 calibre. Three other black, silver and blue versions are available. A result that will delight aficionados!
i_3025_1HORA NOVA AHCI | Collection Jean Kazes – Explorer
Custodian of a unique expertise, Jean Kazes has created legendary clocks that are in fact mechanical sculptures. To ensure these marvels are not forgotten, he is passing on the intricacies of his art to another member of the Watchmaking Academy of Independent Creators (AHCI), Vincent Calabrese. Perpetuating such a work is an exciting and yet daunting challenge. The collaboration between these two virtuoso horologists with golden fingers has given rise to the Explorer clock. This entirely mechanical and hand-crafted timepiece displays the hours and minutes. Other models issued in small limited series or as one-of-a-kind creations may be fitted with striking mechanisms or other additional complications on request.
i_3018_1TECHNOTIME | TT 791
Quality is the keynote in the movements offered by Technotime and which stem from relentless hard work guided by a constant quest for performance along with appropriate structural investments. Witness the TT 791 mechanical calibre featuring a tourbillon and equipped with twin barrels – as indeed are all the company’s mechanical movements. This highly adaptable mechanism may house other complications such as a power-reserve indicator, a retrograde date or any other specific module developed by clients. Equipped with Technotime balance-springs, the TT 791 calibre displays excellent timekeeping performances enabling it to be configured in such a way as to earn COSC chronometer certification. The Tourbillon TT 791 combines performance with a level of reliability tested by the 2011 International Chronometry Competition, in which Technotime won a noteworthy third place.

i_3014_1MAURICE LACROIX | Pontos S Supercharged
A super-powerful engine and equally forceful bodywork. Performance and style guaranteed to set the pulse of thrill-seekers racing. Such are the principles governing this new Pontos S Supercharged from Maurice Lacroix, propelled by the personalised automatic ETA Valgranges movement. While this authentic mechanical performance-accelerator is known for its reliability and its precision, it is also one of the biggest horological “motors” on the market, enabling optimal layout of the chronograph counters to ensure perfect readability. The generous case with its adrenaline-charged lines does the rest.
i_3009_1JEANRICHARD | Terrascope
An icon among Jeanrichard watches, the Terrascope invites us to make each moment a new adventure. Cloaked all in black, it suggests a moonless night in the vast expanses of the desert, lit by luminescent hands and hour-markers like a sprinkling of stars. In a two-coloured livery, the Terrascope interprets time tinged with refinement and a delicious sporting touch. The case, with its complex, multi-level construction, commands attention with an immediately recognisable design. Inside beats a mechanical automatic calibre that will take its wearer through each new day’s adventures with remarkable precision.
i_3008_1HYT | H2 Titanium & White Gold Blue
HYT continues its quest for hybridisation, this time with a blue liquid that interacts with the mechanical movement through an interface of two bellows in a “V” arrangement. The central minute hand has a layered construction to run alongside the fluid system and sweep the bellows by making a jump after 30 minutes. The crown-position indicator (“H-N-R”) at 3 o’clock is balanced by another hand corresponding to a temperature indicator. This exclusive HYT innovation tells the wearer when the liquid is at the optimal temperature to adjust the watch. Limited series of 20.
i_2997_1EBERHARD & Co | Chrono 4
Featuring its iconic counters lined up along the same horizontal axis, an exclusive feature of Eberhard & Co, the famous Chrono 4 adopts an even sportier look this year in its original 40 mm steel case. The black counters creating a tone-on-tone effect with the dial are lit up by contrasting silver-toned rings echoed by the Arabic numerals that stand out against the hollowed luminescent studs. The chronograph sweep seconds hand lends a very dynamic touch of red also featured on the 24-hour counter hand.
i_3011_1L’DUCHEN | Supernova Collection
Grandiose and majestically luminous, a supernova is formed when a star explodes. Its brilliance may be even more intense than that of the galaxy. Such a phenomenon is believed by some to have given birth to our solar system, five billion years ago. The new collection from L’Duchen is dedicated to this grand mystery of the universe. The watch depicts fascinating three-dimensional stars on its dial, while the helicoidal décor symbolises the birth of a star. Its functions are driven by a mechanical automatic movement of which the balance is revealed through an aperture at 6 o’clock.

i_3026_1HORA NOVA AHCI | Collection Vincent Calabrese – Régulus
At the summit of his art, master watchmaker Vincent Calabrese presents the purest rendering ever of a tourbillon regulator: Régulus. A fascinating case in white sapphire contains a movement, proposed in 18K white or yellow gold, whose design and manufacture are entirely the watchmaker’s work. The skilfully orchestrated wheels come alive against a backdrop of absolute transparency, as if to remind us that the essence of watchmaking has always lain with mechanical genius.
i_2988_1CHARRIOL | Colvmbvs™ Cintré Convexe
The delicately restrained and emblematic ColvmbvsTM by Charriol breaks free of the round shape to appear in an elegantly waisted rectangle. i_3027_1BREITLING | Chronomat 44 GMT “Patrouille Suisse 50th Anniversary”
1964 saw the birth of the Patrouille Suisse, an aerobatics team composed of professional air force pilots, which established itself from 1995 onwards as one of the rare supersonic jet teams, flying on six F-5E Tiger II hunter planes. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this exceptional squadron, Breitling is dedicating an exclusive version of its famous Chronomet in a dual-time versions. Issued in a 1,000-piece limited numbered series, this authentic wrist instrument for pilots features a caseback engraved with the Patrouille Suisse official 50th anniversary logo, a dial personalised with the squadron logo at 9 o’clock, while the additional hours hand is tipped with the outline of a red F-5E Tiger II.
i_2989_1CHRISTOPHE CLARET | Poker
After 21 Blackjack and Baccara, Christophe Claret plays a new card in a strong hand of interactive fine timepieces with the Poker watch. The master watchmaker has once again called aficionados’ bluff and put a full pack of 52 cards inside the 45 mm case, so that three players can immerse themselves in real-life games of Texas Hold’em, the most popular variant of poker. As well as the bank, Poker packs in 32,768 combinations: that’s 98,304 combinations for three players. A patented cathedral gong sounds each time the pushers for flop and turn/river are actuated. The casino atmosphere continues on the flipside, with a 3D roulette wheel on the oscillating weight. Each version is proposed as a 20-piece limited series.
i_2995_1DE BETHUNE | DB28 Digitale
For De Bethune, late eighteenth-century fine watchmaking is an inspiration from which the future can be drawn. The Manufacture delivers its highly contemporary vision of this period’s aesthetic in the new DB28 Digitale, whose hand-guilloché dial is the backdrop for three types of display: spherical for moon phases, digital for jumping hours, and analogue for minutes on a rotating disc. Visual balance is achieved by the patented spherical moon in the centre of the dial. Its two polished hemispheres, one in palladium, the other in flame-blued steel, show the moon’s phases with a precision of one lunar day every 1,112 years. The case, which is crafted from mirror-polished titanium, benefits from a patented system of spring-mounted floating lugs for millimetric adjustment to the wrist and its movements.
i_3012_1LOUIS ERARD | Excellence Regulator Power Reserve
Louis Erard presents the masterful Regulator Power Reserve, truly an “Icon of Excellence” that once again demonstrates the watchmaker’s vitality, creativity and expertise. The Regulator Power Reserve is a tribute to the early instruments of precision timekeeping, as well as a contemporary expression of the brand’s virtuoso skill as it draws on a complication that is exclusive to the Le Noirmont watchmaker. A sober white dial showing hours by Roman numerals on an offset subdial at 12 o’clock, small seconds at 6 o’clock, and power reserve at 9 o’clock accentuate the classic sophistication of a richly nuanced collection. This Power Reserve model is proof that Louis Erard takes the most consensual displays to a new level of perfection. Forty millimetres that inspire multiple variations and continue to embody an uncompromising philosophy of fine timepieces at affordable prices.

Established in 1890, Van Der Bauwede Genève has forged a reputation as a reference in jewellery and diamonds. The company also excels in watchmaking, where it delights in turning conventions upside-down with dazzling, trailblazing creations. The superbly glamorous and avant-garde Twilight collection is no exception to the rule. The white gold ring boasts a stunning and bold design, captured by a tanzanite weighing 12.95 carats and 198 white diamonds for 2.4 carats. The watch brings to life its own “Twilight” scene in an explosion of black, purple, blue and pink sapphires.
i_2984_1AEROWATCH | Renaissance Fir Tree
Architectural and resolutely modern, the Renaissance Fir Tree goes against the grain of the classic skeleton watch. A contemporary interpretation of Art Nouveau, its mechanism has been sculpted in the style sapin or “fir tree” style that is particular to Switzerland, with roots in the regional and traditional values of the watchmaker’s art. This graceful composition boasts superlative finishing, with hand-chamfering. A vivacious yellow leather strap completes the look to perfection.
i_3020_1TF EST 1968 | T-Mechanic Rollerball
Made to match the new T-Mechanic Open Side cufflinks, this Rollerball and its vertically-mounted watch mechanism transforms writing into a sight to behold. The art of movement with a sense of fun – two characteristics of the global Swiss brand TF Est. 1968 – take the form of a writing instrument, manufactured with the irreproachable quality of Swiss craftsmanship: reliable, solidly built, and comfortable to hold. Freddy Tschumi, founder of the brand, never tires of scratching the itch of horology and calligraphy fans. The T-Mechanic Rollerball brings more accessible luxury from the Geneva-based firm, brimming with subtle details: a clip system, sporting TF initials and made from 58 parts, attaches unobtrusively to a jacket lapel or shirt pocket; a Schmidt mechanism commands the rollerball pen tip or pencil lead (and takes all types of refill); and a hermetically sealed, highly shock-resistant sapphire crystal encloses the watch mechanism. Served in a TF Est. 1968 box, in three versions: palladium, yellow gold-plated, or pink gold-plated.

Zeitwinkel expresses its nature through the 273° model and notably through its aesthetic choices, thanks to a clever play on contrasts between rounded and linear shapes, polished surfaces and textured zones that make this timepiece so distinctive. It also reveals its character through its approach to customer relations, since the youthful Saint-Imier-based brand is earning a constantly enhanced reputation for its mechanical ingenuity and its independence, while continuing to focus on direct contacts. The patented large date display at 11 o’clock, the power-reserve indication and the exclusive in-house ZW0103 calibre eloquently express the brand’s expertise. An investment timepiece!

i_2987_1CHARRIOL | Colvmbvs™ Grande Date GMT
Charriol sets sail for new horizons with this latest timepiece inspired by Christopher Columbus: the Colvmbvs™ Grande Date GMT. Its generous case, for the first time in steel with a pink gold PVD treatment, makes no secret of its ties with the wide-open seas. The triangles around the caseband allude to the markings on a compass rose, the crown takes the shape of a rigging shackle, and the transparent back is engraved with the intrepid explorer’s profile. Elegant contrasts are assured by the anthracite of the dial which frames a large date and a second time zone.
i_3015_1RODANIA | Nolan Retrograde
The classic and timeless new Nolan Retrograde embodies the elegantly conveyed expertise characteristic of Rodania models since 1930. BLANCPAIN | Collection Villeret, 8 jours
The Villeret collection, named after the Manufacture’s birthplace, gives form to Blancpain’s deep-seated principle to always put authenticity first and to respect tradition. It is now joined by a remarkably sober watch whose grand feu enamel dial displays the essence of time. To produce its inalterable radiance, the enamel is baked, layer after layer, at temperatures exceeding 1,000°C. Between firings, the dial is meticulously retouched by hand, then finished using a highly specific savoir-faire which reaffirms Blancpain’s attachment to perpetuating watchmaking’s time-honoured skills.

ARNOLD & SON | Time Pyramid
Seemingly suspended between two sapphire crystals, the A&S1615 calibre at the heart of this fascinating watch borrows its pyramid structure from the historic regulator clocks made by John and Roger Arnold. Like the watch’s indications, the different components of this vertical, linear movement are set out on three levels, producing an astonishing three-dimensional effect in a skeletonised composition that is inspired by nineteenth-century English table clocks. A true feat of mechanics, devised and built by Arnold & Son, this movement has a separate power-reserve indicator for each of the two barrels.

CORUM | Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Double Tourbillon
Inside the iconic twelve-sided case of the Admiral’s Cup watch beats a gem of precision timekeeping: the CO 1008 calibre with two parallel-mounted tourbillons. A horological tour de force, this exclusive mechanism also makes room for a retrograde date and a particularly innovative time-adjustment system. By pressing the crown pusher, the wearer can instantly bring the minute hand to the 12th hour-marker to set the exact time, and this up to five minutes before and after a full hour.

PIERRE DEROCHE | TNT ROYAL RETRO 43
The Royal Retro movement is the essence of Pierre DeRoche. Five years after its creation, the brand returns to its roots. The same complications, the same personality, and the same nerves of steel in a more discreet size for slimmer wrists. The new TNT Royal Retro has shaved a little over 4 millimetres from its waistline, but is still geared for action. Seconds again put on a mesmerising show as one hand passes on to the next. “43” could well become the new number for the TNT Royal Retro collection.

TISSOT | Tissot T-Race Touch Aluminium
An authentic coach spurring on its wearer to accomplish new feats, the Tissot T-Race Touch is a perfect combination of the Tissot T-Race and the Tissot Racing-Touch, both inspired by the world of motorsports. Its sporting style is enhanced by its aluminium case enabling the integration of blue, green, orange or black colours. The incomparably light new Tissot T-Race Touch Aluminium is the perfect companion in facing all manner of challenges, with no less than 11 functions available at the touch of a finger.

ALPINA | Startimer Pilot Automatic Sunstar
Alpina’s long tradition of pilot watches inspires the clean design of the new Startimer Pilot Automatic Sunstar. Large, luminescent numerals, a characteristic feature of flight instruments, stand out on a dial that incorporates numerous elegant touches. A refined sunray finish against sophisticated anthracite grey, an applied minute circle and, of course, Alpina’s signature red triangle on the central seconds hand make this watch the ideal partner in all circumstances.

CERTINA | DS-2 Chronograph
Few quartz chronographs can boast the absolute precision of a chronometer (+/- 10 sec. a year). The DS-2 Chronograph belongs to this elite circle, thanks to its ETA PRECIDRIVE movement which displays time with a precision of 1/100th of a second. A watch cut out for this level of performance demands a design to match, and the DS-2 Chronograph clearly belongs to a world of sporting exploits, and motor sports in particular.

COINWATCH | Mark Collection C140 & C141
The delightfully romantic latest creations from Coinwatch come in pairs featuring soft, gentle lines. For Her, the hours tick by on a mother-of-pearl background adorned with diamond hour-markers and two large Roman numerals, while His model is mechanical, powered by an automatic movement also driving a date display. Precious moments are made to be lived with a significant other in order to become truly unique.

COVER | Co175 Palatino XL
A modern, sports style materialised in a perfectly proportioned case. Graphic lines, a tachymeter to measure speed, the instant legibility of white numerals against all-over black, with accents in red or orange aluminium for a splash of colour. Masculine through and through, this new chronograph is made to measure for life in the fast lane.

DWISS | Emme Silver Black
The first model from the up-and-coming Dwiss brand focuses on a steel case in 9 parts, including a black PVD-treated bezel. This ingenious and patented construction is secured by 23 screws, some visible and some concealed. Inside this contemporary design beats an automatic mechanical calibre. Proposed as 4 different versions.
