Sinarsky Pipe Plant, a TMK subsidiary, has launched production of a new type of boiler tube, commissioned by Krasny Kotelshchik Taganrog Boiler-Making Works, one of Russia’s largest manufacturers of power engineering equipment.
The 31.75 mm cold-drawn tube with 6.10 mm walls, produced to ASME SA-210/SA-210M international standard, will be used in the manufacture of equipment for the Long Phu 1 thermal power project in Vietnam. Krasny Kotelshchik Works is involved in the construction of the 1,200 MW thermal power project as part of Power Machines, a Saint Petersburg-based power engineering company.
Sinarsky Pipe Plant won the supply contract in a tender process which involved 12 leading Russian and foreign boiler tube producers. The new production is based at Sinarsky Pipe Plant’s tube drawing shop No. 2 and uses billets produced by Seversky Tube Works, which is also part of TMK. The customer’s representatives attended the acceptance tests of finished products at the plant. In April–May 2016, the plant supplied the first batch of 250 tonnes of tubular products to the customer. Shipment of the second batch is scheduled for June.

In recent years, shipyards and yachting businesses alike have seen a dramatic fall in new build superyachts; whilst the global recession of 2008 caused this decline, owners are still opting for refit over new build.,
Nautical Structures, a specialist in load-bearing marine structures, davits, cranes and passerelles confirmed this theory.
Rick Thomas, vice president of Nauticial Structures explained, “There are too few new projects which are driving competition to unhealthy levels at times. Whilst it is important that all companies remain competitive in business, the industry also needs to be able to support new product development, innovation and product support, which means the companies providing these products need to be profitable.
“It is a fine line we walk in this industry, some companies have already failed and perhaps more will. Nautical Structures is fortunate enough to enjoy a core group of companies that are very loyal and supportive to the business.”
With the recent closure of award winning superyacht builder, Fitzroy Yachts, New Zealand, it is apparent this issue is reaching all corners of the globe. Speaking in January 2014, Rodney Martin, managing director of Fitzroy Yachts said, “Like a large number of our fellow yacht builders, we have felt the effects of the 2008 global financial crisis and its impact on the new build order book.”
Nautical Structures has seen a recent boom in refit and repairs, with many clients approaching them wanting significant work done.
Rick Thomas went on to say, “There seems to be more recent activity working with naval architects and designers, which is a good indication of new builds to come. We are very optimistic about the future and are here for the long-haul.”
With the global economic outlook looking promising for the next five years, it looks like the superyacht industry may again see more and more new builds being introduced to the market.

Frankfurt am Main/Nuremberg, 21 December 2012 – The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Fernsehforschung (AGF), the partnership of the TV stations ARD, ProSiebenSat.1, RTL Media Group Germany and ZDF, has commissioned GfK to continue monitoring TV viewing in Germany, initially until 2018. The contracts are worth around €130 million.
TV usage in TV households in Germany will be measured via a panel of 5,000 reporting households using the GfK TC score measurement device, which will be supplemented by the GfK UMX measurement technology based on the principle of audio-matching. These data will be made available to TV stations, their advertising sales organizations, media agencies and advertisers every single day.
In addition to the introduction of the supplementary measurement technology GfK UMX, the system includes further innovations, which future-proof television audience measurement in Germany. For example, by doing away with conurbations – also West Berlin and East Berlin have now been combined as Berlin – the regional distribution of the panel households has been optimized. The process for recruiting households to replace those that leave the panel is adjusted to reflect the diverging options for receiving TV. Households and those who inhabit them now have the option of recording their changing personal characteristics online. The measurement of TV consumption in IPTV households was also introduced a few months ago.
The absolute anonymity of the panel members, the highest data security and the quality of the audience share and market share determining the German TV market remain central to the operation of the system. GfK has been operating the TV research system in Germany for the AGF since 1985 and this is consequently the sixth successive contractual period.
