The new strip pickling line #2, with planned annual production of 30,000 tons (gross), will go into operation in mid-2023.
ANDRITZ will supply the complete strip pickling line as well as a new, integrated wastewater treatment plant, including design, engineering, delivery, installation, start-up, and optimization of production.
An autonomous coil transport brings the coils to the line and then collects the coils produced. International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Barqi Tojik, Tajikistan, for rehabilitation and modernization of the entire electro-mechanical equipment, including the inspection and repair of nine penstocks, for the existing Nurek hydropower plant in the Republic of Tajikistan. With the current installed capacity of 3,000 MW, Nurek is the largest hydropower plant in Central Asia and covers more than 70% of the national electrical energy demand. The project is funded by the World Bank. The contract value for ANDRITZ amounts to slightly more than 120 million euros.

The objectives of the Nurek Hydropower Rehabilitation Project for Tajikistan are to rehabilitate and restore the generating capacity of nine power generating units at Nurek hydropower plant, improve their efficiency, and enhance the safety of the Nurek dam.
The ANDRITZ scope of supply comprises comprehensive modernization of the existing nine generating units by supplying and installing new 380 MW Francis turbines and generators, including new transformers, as well as the electrical and mechanical auxiliary equipment within the power house. After modernization, the installed capacity of the generating units will be increased by about 12%.
The design of the new units takes account of the plant’s annual storage operations and will, therefore, be suitable for operation with a wide range of heads. Together with the Rogun hydropower plant, which is under construction and located upstream of the Nurek reservoir, this project will optimize water storage management on the Vaksh river cascade, ensuring a significant increase in electrical energy production by the Nurek hydropower station as well as meeting the changing grid demands. The contract also stipulates that environmental conservation measures and water management requirements must be incorporated.
The rehabilitation of Nurek will safeguard the electrical energy supply in the Republic of Tajikistan and make an important contribution towards the strategic use of renewable energy from hydropower in Central Asia. It also offers interesting opportunities for exporting energy to neighboring countries, with the related economic benefits for the countries concerned.

GRAZ, MARCH 6, 2018. International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order – as part of a consortium – from l’Office Nationale de l’Électricité et de l’Eau potable (ONEE) for supply of hydro- and electro-mechanical equipment for the new Abdelmoumen pumped storage hydropower plant located on the River Issen in Taroudant Province, about 140 km southwest of Marrakech, Morocco. The order value for ANDRITZ is over 120 million euros. Construction work will start in the first half of 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2022.

ANDRITZ’s scope of supply comprises design, manufacturing, delivery, installation, supervision, and commissioning of two 175 MW reversible pump turbines, motor generators, and electrical power systems. The consortium leader, the French company VINCI CONSTRUCTION GRANDS PROJETS, will perform all of the important civil engineering work for the project. Both companies are combining their expertise to jointly realize the technically challenging 3 km steel-lined waterway, consisting of a 2 km-long penstock, more than 700 m of tunnels made of sections of between 3.5 and 5 m in diameter, and three shafts up to 60 m in height.
To provide a reliable base for the design of the pump turbines, ANDRITZ conducted broad research and model testing activities. Operating under the outstanding, high net head of about 554 m, the ANDRITZ design ensures that the two pump turbines are able to accommodate 20 rapid mode changes per day and at the same time meet both the high efficiency and reliability requirements for many years to come.
Abdelmoumen will cover peak-load energy demands and provide rapid response power to regulate the Moroccan grid.

Graz/Vienna, September 4, 2017. International technology group ANDRITZ has received a contract from the state-owned Chinese energy utility company Fengning Pump Storage Co. Ltd., State Grid Xinyuan Co. Ltd. to supply two variable speed pump turbines for the new Fengning pumped storage power plant in Hebei Province, China. The contract value amounts to just under 70 million euros, and completion of the project is scheduled for 2021.

The ANDRITZ scope of supply includes two pump turbine motor generator units with variable speed and a nominal capacity of 330 MVA in generator mode and of 345 MVA in pump mode. Additionally, AC-excitation, governor, as well as protection and computer control systems will be supplied.
The Fengning pumped storage plant will be the world’s largest pumped storage power plant, equipped with 12 x 300 MW pump turbine units in one cavern. The two variable speed units will be supplied by ANDRITZ.
For ANDRITZ, this order means a re-entry into the rapidly growing Chinese pumped storage market; it is also the first order to be awarded worldwide for supply of variable speed pump turbine units to China.

Graz, February 1, 2017. International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from Energie Steiermark to supply the electro-mechanical equipment for the new hydropower plant to be built in the Puntigam district of Graz. Commissioning is planned for the first half of 2019.
ANDRITZ HYDRO will supply two bulb turbines (capacity: 2 x 9 MW) with a runner diameter of 3,600 mm each, including speed controllers as well as generators and excitation systems. The power plant is designed for a gross head of 9.65 m and a flow rate of 200 m³/s. A major part of the equipment will be produced in ANDRITZ HYDRO’s production facilities in Austria, mainly at the generator manufacturing plant in Weiz, thus providing local value added.
The power station will be equipped with a fish-ladder and will supply clean, renewable energy for around 20,000 households, thus reducing carbon emissions by 60,000 tons of CO2 annually.
This order once again underlines ANDRITZ HYDRO’s successful, long-term cooperation with Energie Steiermark and its favorable market position in the Austrian hydropower market.

ANDRITZ HYDRO, part of international technology Group Andritz, has received an order from Eidsiva Vannkraft AS to supply electromechanical equipment for the new Nedre Otta hydropower plant in Norway and from the Government utility SNEL (Société Nationale d’Électricité) for rehabilitation of the existing Mwadingusha hydropower plant in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The scope of supply comprises design, manufacturing, and delivery of the complete electromechanical equipment, including two vertical Kaplan turbines with a total output of around 86 megawatts (315 GWh), generators, governors, main inlet valves, mechanical auxiliaries, installation, supervision, and commissioning.
Nedre Otta is a greenfield hydropower project located in the community of Oppland, some 270 km north of Oslo. The power plant will be equipped with two Kaplan turbines of identical size and operated as a run-of-the-river plant with no intake reservoir.
After being awarded the supply of hydropower equipment for the Matre Haugsdal, Lysebotn, and Smibelg-Storåvatn hydropower plants over the past few years, the order for Nedre Otta once again confirms ANDRITZ HYDRO’s strong market position in Norway.
Mwadingusha
As leader of a consortium, ANDRITZ HYDRO has been awarded a contract for refurbishment of the existing Mwadingusha hydropower plant in the Katanga Province, DR Congo. The scope of supply for ANDRITZ HYDRO comprises replacement of four turbine units, generators, governors, inlet valves, exciters, voltage regulation, and draft tube stop logs, including dismantling, erection, and commissioning. The new turbines have almost ten percent more output than the previous units. The original turbine manufacturer was Charmilles, a predecessor of ANDRITZ HYDRO; initial commissioning took place in 1928.
After completion and reconnecting to the grid, the Mwadingusha hydropower plant will provide electric power to the copper mines in the Katanga region as well as to the public distribution grid of SNEL.

Graz/Vienna, October 7, 2016. ANDRITZ HYDRO, part of international technology Group Andritz, has received an order from the Phonesack Group Limited to supply electromechanical equipment for the Nam Theun 1 hydropower project in the People’s Democratic Republic of Lao.
The scope of supply comprises design, manufacturing and the supply of the complete electromechanical equipment, including three vertical Francis turbines with a total output of around 670 megawatts, model test, generators, governors, automation system, main transformer, medium- and low-voltage switchgears, power and control cables, fire protection system, 500kV GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear), the main inlet valve, mechanical auxiliaries, installation supervision and commissioning.
Nam Theun 1 is a hydropower storage scheme using the water from the Nam Kading River. It is a major project of the Lao and Thai Power development plan and will strongly contribute to the grid stability in both countries. Electricity will be supplied to Lao and Thailand by dedicated transmission lines. Commercial operation is scheduled to start by the end of 2020.

ANDRITZ HYDRO GmbH, a member of international technology group ANDRITZ, has been contracted by the Spanish energy utility IBERDROLA GENERACIÓN to supply the electro-mechanical equipment and the penstock for the new pumped storage hydropower plant Gouvães in Portugal. The total contract value for ANDRITZ amounts to about 140 million euros.
The scope of delivery comprises design, manufacturing, supply, and installation supervision for the complete electro- and hydro-mechanical equipment, including reversible pump turbines, motor generators, and electrical power systems, as well as design, manufacturing, supply, and complete installation of a penstock (including three bifurcators) with a total weight of about 12,000 tons, an average diameter of about 5,400 mm and a length of 2.5 km.
With four pump turbines with a capacity of 220 MW each, Gouvães will be the heart of a new hydroelectric generation and storage scheme, which finally will consist of three power stations and total power production of almost 1,200 MW. It will be built on the Támega River in Northern Portugal, close to the city of Porto. Gouvães will cover the need for peak-load energy and provide fast-responding regulating power. Together with the base load generation from the other two power stations of smaller size, this scheme will ideally complement the volatile electricity generation from wind power, which has been growing significantly in recent years. Additionally, the project will have a very positive impact on the employment situation in the region.
To provide a safe basis for the design of the technically outstanding high-head pump turbines with a net head of about 660 m, extensive research and model testing activities have been performed in ANDRITZ HYDRO´s own test laboratory in order to make sure that the requirements of IBERDROLA GENERACIÓN regarding feasibility and reliability will be met in an optimum way.
This is the third large contract between IBERDROLA GENERACIÓN and ANDRITZ HYDRO on the Iberian Peninsula, after having received the contracts for the equipment deliveries for the San Pedro II hydropower plant in 2011 and for modernization of the Aldeadávila hydropower plant in 2014.

By 2022, ANDRITZ HYDRO will deliver four new Francis runners with increased efficiency and improved cavitation behavior, including new speed and voltage regulators.
ENEL (Empresa Nicaragüense de Electricidad), Nicaragua, ordered the modernization of the Carlos Fonseca and Centroamérica hydropower stations, located in the La Rauda valley. ANDRITZ HYDRO will supply the electrical equipment, including new switchgears, main transformers, medium- and low-voltage equipment, as well as protection, excitation, control, and automation systems. The scope of supply also includes repair and renovation work to the spherical valves, butterfly valves, and gates. The Carlos Fonseca and Centroamérica hydropower stations will be put again into commercial operation in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
