Steel Minister Unveils ‘Indian Saga of Steel’ – A Chronicle of Indian Steel Industry

steel3The Union Minister for Steel, Shri Beni Prasad Verma unveiled a Coffee Table Book titled ‘Indian Saga of Steel’ here today. The book brought out by the Ministry of Steel, chronicles the progress of the Indian Steel Industry and details the various milestones achieved by the industry, right from its initial years to the present times.

The book comprising nine chapters, details the initial forays made by Indian steel industry in areas of steel making and the repute of Indian steel making over the ages. This apart, the brief profiles of main and major steel companies across the country also find a mention in the book. Areas of R&D, New Technologies, Environment and CSR also find lucid mentions in the book. The efforts made by leading corporates in areas apart from steel making, make for interesting reading. Photographs of various plant units and corporate responsibility measures etc add to the look and feel of the book. A film on the Indian Steel Industry was also screened on the occasion.

It is noteworthy that since the Minister of Steel, Shri Beni Prasad Verma has taken over the Ministry of Steel, the Indian Steel industry has grown by leaps and bounds. Indian Steel Industry is today the fourth largest steel producing country in the world and has recorded the highest growth rate amongst the top ten steel producing countries of the world. The industry is expected to become the second largest steel producer soon. Shri Verma has been laying stress on developing and adopting better indigenous Research and Development, setting up of beneficiation and pelletisation facilities, as well as adopting advanced steel making technologies.

The Member of Parliament and Chairman, JSPL Shri Naveen Jindal, the Secretary, Ministry of Steel Shri D.R.S. Chaudhary, senior officials from the Ministry of Steel, Chairman SAIL Shri C.S. Verma and CMD, RINL Shri A.P. Choudhary were also present on the occasion.
