Hamburg/Edinburgh: Senvion SE, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Suzlon Group, the world’s fifthlargest* manufacturer of wind turbines, has signed a new contract totaling over 40 megawatts (MW) in the UK. Senvion will be supplying turbines to the A’Chruach Wind Farm in Argyll and Bute in Scotland, developed by Infinis Energy plc (Infinis).
Located within the Kilmichael Forest area in Mid Argyll, the A’Chruach Wind Farm will consist of a mixture of 12 MM92 turbines and nine MM100 turbines, with a total rated output of 42.6 MW.
A’Chruach will produce enough electricity to power more than 22,000 homes, and construction is due to start next summer with handover completed at the end of 2015. Senvion will provide the full maintenance of the wind farm for five years.
The MM92 and MM100 turbines are based on the reliable technology of the MM82, which is the bestselling Senvion onshore turbine in the UK. The combination of MM series machines is ideal for this complex site and demonstrates how the Senvion portfolio is ideally suited to UK wind conditions.
Raymond Gilfedder, Managing Director of Senvion Northern Europe, commented: “I am
delighted to further develop our relationship with Infinis, one of the UK’s leading generators of renewable power. Infinis already own three projects featuring Senvion turbines so confirming our first supply contract with them is proof of our successful relationship and we look forward to continuing this partnership with them in the future.”
Gordon Boyd, Chief Financial Officer of Infinis Energy plc, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Senvion on the construction of the A’Chruach Wind Farm which is an important element of Infinis’ plan to build 130 to 150MW of additional wind capacity by March 2017.”
