BENGALURU, India, July 14, 2015 – Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), and its supplier partners today celebrated the inauguration of 10 e-learning centers across public schools in Bengaluru. UTC, Pratt & Whitney and its supplier partners contributed more than $53,000 USD (33,64,000 INR) for the set-up of the e-learning centers, which will introduce school children to digital courses in the areas of math and science.
By establishing the e-learning centers, Pratt & Whitney is helping provide more than 1,500 students of Bengaluru government schools with access to a top-quality digital education. The centers are equipped with modern facilities, tools and technology to support both teachers and students. These resources include computers, wireless internet, digital projectors, display screens, audio systems, software, subscriptions and furniture.
Speaking at the inauguration, Jayant Sabnis, vice president, Engineering–Module Centers, Pratt & Whitney, said, “As digital technology touches most aspects of modern life and modern professions, it is important to begin digital education at an early age. At UTC and Pratt & Whitney, we are dedicated to supporting the communities in which we operate, like Bengaluru, and are committed to providing local students with the knowledge, education and skills that will make them successful professionals in the future. We believe that these e-learning centers will do just that – empower and nurture Bengaluru’s next generation of scientists, engineers and business professionals.”
The project was executed by Engineers Without Borders India (EWB-India) and students from the University of Connecticut. In addition to Pratt & Whitney and UTC, Belcan, QuEST Global Engineering, Cyient, RGBSI, Genpact, Jaisara, CDI Corporation, and two individual donors provided financial support for the project.
Pratt & Whitney’s support for the e-learning centers in Bengaluru builds on the charitable donations it has made in India over the last decade. Last year, Pratt & Whitney along with UTC and its supplier partners donated $113,000 USD (71,72,000 INR) to construct a residential building for girls at the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust in Hyderabad, with further funding this year. Since 2004, Pratt & Whitney has made annual contributions to the Association Saikorian that now total more than $186,000 USD (1,18,05,000 INR), including this year’s contribution of $19,000 USD ( 12,06,000 INR). Additionally, Pratt & Whitney has funded major projects with Project Krushi and schools in Gowdavally, Hyderabad.
