Finolex Industries held a record 60 Plumber Meets across the nation

Kick-starts the skill development training program through strategic partnership with Kushal-CREDAI for the first batch of 500 plumbers with a goal to train 1 lakh plumbers.

Pune, 11 March 2016 – On the occasion of World Plumbing Day, Finolex Industries Limited with a participation of approximately 3000 plumbers organized 60 Plumber Meets across the Nation. These meets were conducted in 26 states and 58 cities across the country.  During the event, FIL appreciated the contribution of senior plumbers for their effort and dedication towards maintaining health and sanitation in the country. In keeping with the Prime Minister Narendra Modiji’s agenda on skill development, the plumber meet focused on the importance of skilled plumbers in the country. Plumbers actively participated in these plumber meets and expressed their sentiments towards this initiative taken by Finolex Industries Limited. In order to support the plumbing community, Finolex Industries Limited will continue to plan and organize such meets in the near future. It is an endeavor of the company to provide support and better lives to plumbers.

Elaborating about the company’s motive and plan on this occasion, Executive Chairman, Mr. Prakash Chhabria sent a video message to all 60 plumber meets where he expressed his gratitude and thanked the plumber community for playing an important role in our Prime MinisterMr NarendraModiji’s initiative of Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan.

On the same occasion, Finolex Industries Limited also kick-starts its collaboration with Kushal CREDAI Pune Metro which is already into Training unskilled/semi-skilled Plumbers. The  first leg of this ambitiouspartnership on Skill Development program shall cover 500 Plumbers. The training program which has been developed in collaboration with KUSHAL [KUSHAL is a  partnership project between Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) Pune Metro and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)] is a step forward on the initiative that was flagged off in July 2015 on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day.

FIL in Collaboration with Kushal CREDAI Pune Metro also launched a Plumbing Trade Film Video which shall  be integral part of the training program. The 20 minute video training module will teach construction workers and unskilled plumbers the basic do’s and don’ts of plumbing ; provide information on plumbing essentials like safety guidelines, sewerage systems, drainage Systems, septic pipes and the know-how of this industry. A textbook (handbook for plumbers and trainers) was also released during this event.

The first leg of the training program will include 500 plumbers who will be taught the basics of plumbing and the practical experience they can garner on construction sites. The training provided by Kushal CREDAI Pune Metroshall be a healthy mix of 80% On Job Training and 20% Classroom Training. The Finolex Industries –Kushal Skill development program aims to train almost 100,000 plumbers in the next five to seven years.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Prakash Chhabria, Executive Chairman of Finolex Industries Ltd. commented, “I am very happy to be standing here as we in partnership with Kushal CREDAI Pune Metro start our first batch today and release the training material. This day is significant considering that today is World Plumbing Day and being able to reach out to so many members of our plumbing community is heartfelt.‘Skill India’ is a movement, not just a program. We need people who believe in working hard and adding value in whatever they do.”

 

He was further quipped saying, “We will be rolling out this training to every region in the country in the coming years with Kushal-CREDAI Pune Metro’s association.

The event which happened in Jawaharlal Nehru auditorium in Pune was well attended by prominent guests like Mr Mahesh Zagade CEO Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority, Mr. Satish Magar MD Magarpatta Township Development and Construction Company Limited and President MCCIA, Mr. J.P. Shroff Chairman Kushal among others.

Mr. Mahesh Zagade applauded the work of plumbers and said that they would be in great demand in future due to rapid urbanization across the globe. Mr. Satish Magar commented it is a great chemistry between Finolex Industries Limited and Kushal due to the fact that plumbing is of vital importance for the construction industry because the building maintenance depends a lot on leakages and thus plumbers play a very important role in this industry.

 

The move from Finolex Industries Ltd. assumes great significance as there is a huge shortage of skilled plumbers in India. As per industry estimates, about 90 % of the plumbing industry in India lacks professional training thus putting the Indian construction at a major crisis of quality workforce. Also on this occasion, Finolex announced its forthcoming initiative in increasing the product portfolio by adding Rainwater harvesting and SWR Pipes and Fittings with integrated rings.
