Jaipur: The IIHMR University one of India’s only premiere Research University. It has the mandate for postgraduate education, research and capacity building exclusively in the health sector. The IIHMR, the sponsoring body of the IIHMR University has appointed Dr. SD Gupta as the Chairman from 1st June, 2016. Dr. S D Gupta, has been the First President of the IIHMR University. The IIHMR Board has also appointed him as the Trustee and Trustee Secretary of the IIHMR which has four campuses- Jaipur, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata.
Dr. SD Gupta has been associated with the IIHMR Group since 1998. During his 18 years tenure, Dr. Gupta was appointed as the President of IIHMR, Jaipur in the year 2014. Under his leadership the IIHMR, Jaipur was incorporated as the IIHMR University and was approved by the UGC in 2015 under his leadership. He was also appointed as the Corporate Director of IIHMR Group of institutions including IIHMR University, IIHMR Bangalore and IIHMR Delhi in the year 2014.
Dr. SD Gupta has done pioneering work of creating and establishing new discipline of health management, and promoting research in health policy and health systems and programme management. He has chaired several committees on scientific research and Health Management. He also served as advisor to WHO Scientific Working Group on Research Information Management.
He has been associated in various capacities with several national and international research and academic organizations. He is also the Secretary General of WHO’s South East Asia Public Health Education Network (SEAPHEIN). He has served as member of the Technical Review Panel of the Global Fund. He is member of several research advisory committees and boards in various institutions in India and other countries. Over the past three decades of his distinguished career, he has completed more than 100 research studies and projects supported by various organizations/agencies and have more than 100 research publications to his credit. His areas of research, inter alia, include public health, epidemiology, demography, reproductive health and nutrition, health systems and management in the health sector. Dr. Gupta is the recipient of QIMPRO Gold Standard Award 2009 for Healthcare.
IIHMR University, Jaipur is the first of its kind in India solely focused on health management research. The IIHMR University is recognized by Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Finance and Government of India as a Research Institution. IIHMR University is also accredited to International Hospital Federation & Association of University Programmes in Health Administration. The IIHMR University is a WHO Collaborating Centre for District Health Systems and is also designated as an Institute of Excellence by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It has played a major role in promoting and conducting health policy and program management research. The Institute has been instrumental in a paradigm shift in the management of health care and hospitals in India. A critical mass of more than 1700 professionally trained health and hospital managers has been produced by IIHMR. For its contribution to management education, it has gained several Leadership Awards. In addition, IIHMR has become a major destination for training and capacity development in leadership and strategic management, hospital management, disaster management, quality management, project management, health management information systems, and health economics and finance.
