Delhi Crafts Council hosted Kairi 2016 – “Summer Textiles and Saree Exhibition

New Delhi, March, 2016:- Delhi Crafts Council enthralled the city with “Kairi 2016”, a summer textile & saree exhibition which kicked off from March 10th till 12th, 2016 at Aga Khan Hall, 6, Bhagwan Das Road, New Delhi. This exhibition showcased the innate talent of the skilled weavers from different states of the country. It offered a wide array of Khadi, Ajrakh, Bagru, Dabu prints, laheriya, Ajrakh, Bandhani, K a l a m k a r i , B a n a r a s w e a v e s , I k a t , K o t a , Maheshwari, Chanderi, Bagh prints, Tribal weaves from Bastar, South India weaves and Prints from Jaipur, Ikats, Tie & dye, & many more.

Kairi 2016 witnessed over 5000 visitors and saw over 20 exhibitors display their range of textiles. This initiative is a platform to showcase the talent of skilled weavers from across the country. The participating exhibitors are Govardhan Panika, Kartik, Asgar Ali, Suresh & Malkha & many more. “Kairi is a special event for us at the Delhi Crafts Council.
 
 We showcase weavers from across India, many of whom have never showcased their textiles in Delhi before. The Indian textile industry has always been dynamic and has a huge potential to create a remarkable presence all across the world. We have witnessed massive response from the buyers. We believe that it is our onus to nurture Indian craftsmanship and are happy to provide them with a platform to reach a wider market”, underlines Ms. Kamayani Jalan Treasurer, Delhi crafts council. Delhi Crafts Council Delhi Crafts Council is a part of a movement towards revitalization and promotion of traditional Indian crafts. A registered voluntary nonprofit organization, it was founded in1967 by the late Smt. Kamladevi Chattopadhyaya. It is affiliated to Crafts Council of India in Chennai and is part of a larger network of regional councils. Broadly, the council concerns itself with securing a better life for traditional crafts persons by preserving and promoting their skills.
